4 games!?!?! this baffles me

So reading an article on trading green  to houston bc it makes sense and blah blah blah, when something in the article jumped how and slapped me in the face!

WE ARE ONLY 4 GAMES BACK FROM A PLAYOFF SPOT!?!?!?!  Im torn between tanking or not.....i lean towards just playing hard and winning is nice but i see the beauty in tanking. BUT as bad as we have been its amazing and sad how weak the east currently is!

It really shows you how bad the eastern conf is. As much as I'd love to keep winning and get into the playoffs, I would hate to be one of those teams that are constantly getting knocked out in the first round year after year.

Whats even more mind boggling is that we are tied with Philly...

Hence Philly being only 4 games out of the 8th slot....

Which would then give us a third first round pick in this years draft.....

Being a decent team and making the playoffs is not a terrible thing.  Being a terrible team and making the playoffs is worst case scenerio.

play the mock draft on ESPN. Play it 5 times, we win jabari parker at least once. Wiggins once. Gordon once. Randle once. 8.8% chance of winning the draft lotto.

Eh, I don't necessarily agree.  Do we make the playoffs by winning 15 of our last 20 because Rondo gets his legs under him and the team gels?  Sure, we'd miss out on the great draft pick, but that's not a mediocre team making the playoffs -- that's a decent team getting it's star back late in the season. 

(Note: I do not expect this to occur.  I'm just proffering a situation in which we make the playoffs with a sub-par record which does not necessarily spell doom and gloom for future years.)

True, but the dangerous part about that sitation is that could turn into a continuing pattern. Of course I'd love to watch a playoff team year after year, but if it's going to stay that way until Rondo gets fed up, or it ruins Dannys rebuilding plans, whatever the reason. It turns this 2-4 year rebuilding process into a 7-8 year slump.

The Celtics' own pick this year is their most valuable asset... if they don't make the playoffs. More valuable than Sullinger, more valuable than Rondo (even if they like Rondo, most teams don't have a need at PG. Everybody could use a draft pick though).

By making the playoffs they'd be turning their most valuable asset into a 15th overall pick at best.
