I still remember that quote from a different, much older book - maybe "Drive" or "The Bird Era"?  Pretty funny story.  Excited to hear about a new book from that period.

I remember reading that Larry Bird saw Artis Gilmore eat 12 dozen raw oysters at one sitting. I'm not sure but that may trump 'ten gallons of ice cream and seven wedding cakes;' eaten in 10 days Still, that is a lot of cake and ice cream.
