Only from the future core of the roster, not including Bass,Wallace or Lee. I don't believe they are part of the future

Pg: Rondo /
SG:              / Bradley
SF:              / Green
PF: Sully.   / KO
 C:              /Fav

Dream scenario would be to draft parker or wiggins of course, but smart and exum could be pretty good to slot into that core too.

So to me we are a go to scorer and a defensive anchor away from having a future contending roster

We have some very high IQ big men with sully and KO, good defenders with Rondo and AB. So we aren't that far away IMO, just need some top end talent to add to the starting lineup. We should be a contending team in 3-5 years , especially with all the assets we have.

I mostly agree with your setup, although I still think Kelly may be able to develop into a solid starting center, assuming there isn't a true star at that position on the roster.

I also think that Bradley could be a starter if Rondo gets traded / leaves in free agency and is replaced by a point guard with the size to cover shooting guards (e.g. if the C's draft Marcus Smart).
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Rondo could be a 3rd or 4th best player on a contending team.  Maybe the 2nd best player if he's paired with someone elite like LeBron or Durant.

Sully, Green and Bass can be solid contributors off the bench.  Bradley could be a solid backup point guard that you could stick in there for his solid defense in bursts.

Everyone else would struggle to get minutes or would be on the contending team's D-League affiliate.

Our team lacks talent.  Very few of these guys will be on this team long-term.

In terms of what they are currently? That is what I went with it anyway.

Rondo = star PG
Sully = solid starting PF to high level backup PF
J.Green = solid starting SF, 3rd or 4th option
Bradley = ??
Olynyk = low minute 4th big in depth chart to third stringer
Faverani = backup C to third stringer

pg - Rondo/Pressey
sg -      /AB
sf -      /Green
PF - Sully/
C - Olynyk*/Fav

Olynyk is not a true Center. Not a true PF either. More like PF/SF. If sullinger can keep rebounding north of 10, and we get/draft a decent rebounding SF, than the lineup can work

Rondo's already shown the ability to be the best player on a contending team. After that, it depends on definitions. If Sully remains healthy and progressing he could be a 3rd starter on an contender, Green's probably in that range or a little lower. Bass and Bradley are probably a little below that. They could be starters on contenders (anyone could name as bad or worse players on top teams) or come off the bench. The makeup of title teams is obviously heavily weighted towards it's top players, the "lower starters" and bench players aren't all that different than other teams.

Great thread!  I like this way of looking at the roster.

Rondo has shown to be a top playoff player.  Green started on a WCF team, but isn't a consistent top guy. Wallace would be a great Posey-type role guy.

I'm not sure if Sully is more 6th man or impact starter.

Rondo/
           /Bradley
Green/Wallace
Sully/KO

Nothing at C right now, but I'd like to see KO in 2 yrs.

If we had a closer and go-to guy at SG and a solid defensive center we'd be pretty well set.

I don't think the Celtics have a good number 1 at the moment. Rondo can be the best player in a series. But he doesn't have the scoring ability to take you all the way to the top of the mountain like an Isaiah Thomas.

1. ?
2. Rondo
3. ?
4. Green
5. Sullinger could evolve into this within a year
6. Bradley shows potential to become a 6th best guy on a contender
7. Bass
8. Wallace
8. Crawford, Olynyk, Faverani show potential to be 7th or 8th men in a couple years.
9. Lee, Humphries

But I do think Rondo is a quality second best player on a finals contender. (Other number 2's have included: Wade, Parker, Westbrook, Chandler, Pau Gasol, Pierce, Billups, a young Kobe)

Then Green is at least a quality 4th best player on a finals contender (along the lines of a 37 year old Ray Allen, Battier, a young Ibaka, a young Andrew Bynum, a young Rondo, a 34 year old Mike Finley, Antoine Walker on the Heat, etc.)

Sullinger could become a solid 5th best player along the likes of Perkins in '08, Artest, Chalmers, Terry, Bruce Bowen, Horry, Haslem in '06, etc.

Here are some 6th -8th men from past Finals teams:

6th: Mike Miller, Splitter, Haslem, JJ Barea, Fisher, Posey, Corlis Williamson, Malik Rose

7th: Battier at age 34, Diaw, Deshawn Stevenson, Farmar, PJ Brown in '08, old Gary Payton, old Brent Barry, Okur.

8th: birdman, Neal, Brian Cardinal, Vujacic, Tony Allen, young Gortat, old Mourning, old Linsey Hunter.

Let those 6th-8th names sink in. The Celtics are full of guys that could swap into those roles. True contenders tend to have pretty wacky rosters outside of their top 5 or 6.

depending on the team for everyone concerned:
rondo 1 or 2, rose and paul are 1's so you can't say rondo couldn't be as well but pair him with durant  :o he's #2
green 3
sully 5 or 6
bass 6
ko no pt this year on contender
lee 7 to 8
wallace not scoring hard to say, if he could get scoring up 6th man
bradley 6
fav 8
hump can't tell

of course another way to put this puzzle is this....how will the current celtics rank on the team in 4-5 years when (never if  ;D ) the celtics return to contender status.

1. either free agent star or great draft pick or star in a trade.
2. either free agent star or great draft pick or star in a trade.
3. runnin' rondo
4. slamin' sully
5. either one of the medium draft picks that shows ainge is a draft-genius, or, olynyk, or a free agent pick up.

green will be gone. bradley will probably be gone, but will be #6 or 7 if he stays.

honestly, it is really hard to project the current roster 4-5 years into future. ainge will be wheeling and dealing for the next years.

I like this breakdown system. here's mine.

Pg: Rondo /
SG:       / Bradley
SF: Green/
PF:        /Sully/ KO
 C:        /Fav or KO

You could probably get away with Sullinger as your starting 4 if you had a really great big playing along with him.

I'm honestly not sure what the ceiling is for the younger guys like Sully, Klynyk, or Bradley yet.  You probably wouldn't want Jeff Green to be better than your 3rd or 4th player on a contender.

The really good news, though, is that we have a player in Rondo who has already been the best (or possibly second best) player on a contender.  Obviously, this bodes really well for our future.  There is a very small handful of teams in the league who can say they have a player with those credentials on his resume.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson
