Rondo: Danny knew what he was doing when he hired Brad

“It’s a long year,” said Rajon Rondo, whose continued absence following knee surgery will make it longer still. “You know, it’s a roller coaster. So if he doesn’t, he’ll go crazy. This will drive you crazy. But the best thing about the NBA is you play another game very soon.”

“He’s gone over and beyond what he has to do to get prepared for the games,” said Rondo, who was a de facto assistant coach last night. “Obviously it’s his first year going through this type of season and the NBA game, but he’s open (to suggestion).”

Interestingly enough, the man who was allegedly going to try Stevens’ patience has come away quite impressed with his new coach’s approach.
“He’s fine,” Rondo said. “He’s very vocal, (but) he’s laid back. You know, he wants to win, but he has a good personality for this job. He’s always got an easy feel and a cool demeanor. He’s still taking his time. He knows what he’s doing.
“I think Danny knew what he was doing when he brought Brad in.”

I'm really liking Rondo's demeanor with the team. Last night during the game they even mentioned he had his notebook out like the Assistant Coaches.

They need a ball handler NOW..I'm very interested in seeing their relationship once Rondo is on the floor. But I like that he's making the effort of staying involved with team even if he's on the sidelines.

It feels like it's only a matter of time before we get statements from Rondo that will be picked apart in this forum as people try to interpret his words as implied criticism of Doc based on a perception that Rondo thinks Stevens is better at certain aspects of coaching and that Rivers, therefore, is bad at those things.

Perhaps he should have told Brad not to take out his best rebounder when the team absolutely needs to secure the ball after a free throw. Ainge may have known what he was doing, but Stevens still doesn't. Hopefully he will improve.

Or Vogel taking out Hibbert before that last second play in game 1(?) of Heat/Pacers--even though his staff had a legitimate, defensible reason for it.

you're right.  he should just come out and say that Doc is bad at those things -- just like many of us do already in the forums.
