I wonder if he ends up with the Red Claws. I can't imagine any NBA teams signing him atm, so it's probably either the D-League or going home to Brazil.

I think he could use the minutes with the Red Claws or any other D-League team. But he'd probably get a better chance overseas, maybe the French or German Leagues, where money isn't as big as in Spain or Turkey or Greece, but the checks are always on time. Lesser competition would also allow Fab more playing time and a confidence boost. You have late bloomers like Mirza Begic or Salah Mejri, bigmen who are getting good contracts with big clubs in Europe, so if Fab has a chance, he should forget about the NBA by now. He could always go the Tim Olbrecht route and go back to the D-League for NBA attention and a call up.

I wish Fab the best, once a Celtic, always a Celtic.

The original tweet from CelticsSpa says "Tranquilos, no podemos ficharlo de nuevo", which means "Don't worry, we can't sign him again". Just to make it clear.

Gab needs to go overseas for a few seasons and try to learn how to both play basketball and be a pro.

there has been a sometimes stated, sometimes implied criticism of Fab that he was immature, or lazy, or otherwise not prepared.

This was Adrian Wojnarowski tweet: "Despite frustrations w/ Melo's work habits and maturity, there's a real chance a team will claim him off waivers. He's a 7-foot shotblocker."

I understand (and agree) that there are legit criticisms of his bball skills and the limited amount of time he has played, and therefore his grasp of fundamentals...but what is the basis for criticising his maturity or personality or commitment? Not being facetious, legitimately curious about the basis for these criticisms (i.e. are there stories I missed about missing practices, or getting in trouble on the street, or the like?)

Ty, I figured they meant "can't" but I just copied it from Google Translate.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I believe there were stories in Syracuse and Maine of his spending too many long evenings in bars.  But perhaps more to the point, he was still something of an out-of-shape Flab Melo this summer, more than a year after he got drafted.

Also, when you've got a pair of rookies from the same class but all the gushing from the team is about the younger one being so mature beyond his years, it's probably not a good sign.  (E.g., Sully or the year before Moore ahead of Johnson)

He's supposed to be a likable guy, however, who was voted most humorous by last year's rookie class. (Let's just hope they were laughing with him.)

he frankly looked worse than last year......so out of shape,  still plodding along , not getting it .......

if he isn't willing to put the physical work in ,  he 'll never make it.  .......

he isn't wired right in the head to be an NBA player much less a star.

And the Melo has landed, gaining a training camp invite with the Mavericks.
