Mavericks closing in on deal with Samuel Dalembert to be their new starting. Deal, I'm told, should be wrapped up soon

Mavs slowly making headway

G: J.Calderon, S.Larkin
G: M.Ellis, W.Ellington
F: S.Marion, V.Carter
F: D.Nowitzki,
C: S.Dalembert, (B.Wright?)

Looks like they might have a 40-45 win team there.

They're also trying to restrike a deal with Devin Harris.

I wish we could get Dalembert.  :-[

What are the Mavs trying to do this off-season? I really don't get it at all. Are all of these deals they are making 3+ years? Where are Monta, Jose, and Sam going to get them? My guess is in the late lottery, like this year.

I don't like the deals for them either, but Dirk will be healthy this year, they will make the playoffs

It is Mark Cuban's new strategy.

He didn't like how the one year deals worked out for the team last year + believes that the new stretch provision where you can waive a player and stretch out the money owed to that player, that that new tool makes signing players to 3-4 year deals make more sense because you can stretch out the payments over 7-9 years. That they can get the flexibility they need if they need it without forcing their team down the one year signing every summer.

I don't know if it'll work out but that is their plan after studying the new CBA.

Yeah. I believe so.

If I remember correctly, a team can use it up to a certain percentage of their cap. I can't remember the figure. 25-30% is the figure in my head but I am certain on that. So you can use it as many times as you want until you hit that cut off point. It's the percentage rather than number of players "stretched".

Edit: I think they put in a ceiling for how much of your cap can be taken up by stretched contracts but I can't find confirmation of that anywhere. I remember they were worried about teams having too many stretched out contracts clogging up a team's salary cap for too many years + as a result, not allowing teams to put competitive squads on the floor.

I am fairly positive they put a ceiling on it to avoid things getting out of hand. I thought it was 25-30% of the salary cap figure. But I can't find confirmation of that anywhere. I couldn't see it anywhere in that Larry Coon CBA website.
