Would you trade the Nets 2014 pick + Wallace for any expiring deal?

No. If a team wants to trade an expiring straight up for Wallace, sure, but I wouldn't give up any assets to move him. It's not like we will sign a free agent any time soon; Plus Wallace helps us get to the salary floor. There is no urgent need to move him.

Wallace has a Vin Baker contract and the Nets pick will probably be worthless. In think it's a no brainer.

Wallace is only 3/$30mm while Baker was 4/$56mm. I can't image what Chris Wallace was thinking taking on that deal. What's the harm in having Wallace take up space? It's money you'll have to spend anyway.

Actually, we can completely subtract him from our payroll and still be above the cap floor. Not just that, but Wallace is on the books for 3 more years.

If i was Danny, all i would demand in return would be a 2014 1st round pick and expiring contracts (I'll even throw in Melo or Crawford if they want young talent too).

What do you guys think are the chances of us being able to get that in return for Wallace

I'd say there's about a zero percent chance.

You never know. Most people gave Danny Ainge that same percentage when a KG trade was being proposed back in the day. They said with his roster, there was zero percent chance he could acquire KG in any trade.

Always loved Crash.  He gives a hundred percent and very unselfish.  No need to force a trade.  He will be a useful player on the bench for a few years.  If he increases his value and the right deal comes along, then great.

Brooks and Humphries should also be kept until their value goes up.  However I don't relish the thought of seeing either of them playing in Boston.  I would move Brooks for a late first and Humphries for a second, if the opportunity arises.

Hey Roy, what do you think we could get for Wallace optimistically and realistically.

If we can trade him for an expiring contract period, nevermind getting a 1st rounder with it, that will be an excellent trade for us.

Heck, even if we can shave a year off of his contract I'd be pretty happy.

We'll probably have to send a pick along with him to shave a year or 2 off of his contract though.

Remotely potential candidates I see so far are:
Turkoglu (with a draft pick or 2 going to Orlando)
Al Harrington
Ty Thomas
Asik or Lin (if Wallace can somehow show that he's still a semblance of his old self, I think he'd be a good fit on Houston)
Tayshaun Prince (with a draft pick going to Memphis.  assumes that Wallace shows to be more productive than Prince)
Amare (we'd have to send another productive player or 2 along to NYK)
Goran Dragic (we may have to take Beasley too)
Nene (if we get lucky)

Ty Thomas got amnestied - Charlotte had to make room to sign Big Al.

I'd happily trade him for just about any expiring deal. We'd have to throw in a sweetener, though. No way a team gives us a pick for him.

The salary floor? Have you seen our payroll? We aren't even close to having that problem.

I would give up the pick to move the contract. It is too long.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
Wallace won't become that valuable of a trade asset for another two years.

Yeah, let's trade Wallace for Durant. You never know.

Think of what DA does, he loads, unloads and reloads with better Ammo. Best case scenario, keep Wallace, give him solid bench minutes and hope he shows his game of a few years ago and his stock will rise. Thats when DA makes a packaged deal,  whether its at trade deadline or in 2014-15 off-season. The players we aquired from the Nets all seem like future trade bait to me, unless Marshon Brooks shows massive signs of heading towards his projected potential. But no rush, wait until teams have real needs of a veteran at midseason

My bet is Wallace is used for two years, then Ainge packages him up & uses that expiring deal as yet another asset to grab one helluva player to help us contend. It may not be a KG, a Durant, etc. but it will be a player who helps us win games.

I think those who would be willing to give up draft picks to get rid of Wallace are really mistaken.  Wallace had his worst year ever, and still was a valuable player for the Nets, once you look beyond shooting (and heck, he still shot better than Avery Bradley).

I just put a fanpost on the front page that looks into this a bit more.
