if your franchise is located in a cold weather city that is predominantly white.  That's just the nature of this league.

Isn't this whole *white* thing, the Boston of the past, 60s to 80s? It's basically like saying that the urban space of greater Boston is like Maine, homogeneously white. Today, it's a rather multicultural place unlike let's say Salt Lake City or Minneapolis.

While I think rebuilding through the draft is a necessary first step, you're massively overstating the possibility that we get "3-4 stars" in the next two drafts.  If that happens, Ainge's statue should be erected in front of TD Garden.

I didnt say 3-4 drafted stars. I meant with the cap-space we have in 2015/2016 we'd get at least one star player, add RONDO, JEFF GREEN, DRAFT...that's 3-4 stars. I didn't mean we'd draft 4 superstars in the draft, probably 2 of the 9 picks will pan out that way.

Think about the premise of the argument you just made.

Some stars are content to stay with their first team instead of becoming free agents and moving to a big market with bright lights.

Okay, sure.  But those stars are not going to be free agents.

So basically what you're saying is that the only proof I can offer you is a star who moves from a big market to a smaller one. Sounds awfully like Dwight this summer.

Really the only proof you can offer me is a big free agent going to Boston.  Because it hasn't ever happened.  In the history of the franchise.

The Dwight thing is interesting.  We'll see if he actually goes to Houston.  If he does, that would definitely be the case of talent choosing to join talent. 

Houston does have the plus of being a warm weather city in a state with very low taxes, though.  That helps a lot.

Look, the next time we have a young superstar top 10 talent on our team, we'll be in a much better position to attract free agents than we are now.  I'm not disputing that.  Even then, though, we'll be at a disadvantage compared to warm weather places that can say the same.

The bottom line is I would never plan my rebuild around acquiring a franchise caliber player in free agency.  I think it's bad strategy in general, but especially so if your franchise is located in a cold weather city that is predominantly white.  That's just the nature of this league.
