Non Basketball Reasons Why I'll Miss Doc

Putting aside actual basketball coaching and player management reasons aside, I am really going to miss Doc's overall presentation as a person. By that I mean his well spoken, politically correct nature which i have recently looked up to and admired since i became a fan of Boston.

The man has his flaws like everyone, but from watching many interviews weather it be radio, post game, conferences etc, i found it very insightful just listening the way he presents himself and others around him. His calm after bad losses and the playoffs, taking the blame from players and putting it on himself, sending subtle messages, making strong relationships with other league players whilst being part of one of the most hated teams in the league. I think it safe to say that Doc is the ultimate professional, and that is something i am going to miss about him.

I met doc in person (duke vs fsu game, he came to fsu), I wanted a picture with him and he was cool with it. my friend didnt know how to use my phone and froze my phone before taking the pic. it was outside the duke locker room, and the media was there, duke parents were there waiting for their kids, I ended up with doc having his arm around my shoulder for about 3 minutes waiting for my friend to take the pic... i finally got my friend to take the pic but that was after being with doc for at least around 10 minutes... some media members from ESPN took pics of doc with his arm  around me for some reason lol...we all just hung out with him outside the duke away locker room for about 15-30 minutes... he was just cracking jokes, made fun of the knicks who played the heat that night he was wondering if they lost by 40... austin came out of the duke road locker room  as did the other duke players.... doc is really tall like 6'5, austin is shorter than his listed 6'4, probably 6'2.5. seth curry is probably 6'1 or 6'0...the plumlees are all tall as crap, they got it from their dad whom is also tall. the plumlee father was the tallest old guy Ive ever seen in person, he had to be 7 feet tall and at least 55 years old. Austin was quiet and humble. he just dropped 20 pts in a win vs FSU and I remember some old guy said "nice game austin" and he was very thankful about that compliment.

Me too.  The players all seem to respect him for these qualities.  To be honest, I've always thought that the stuff you are talking about is more important in an NBA head coach than Xs and Os.

I always liked Doc's attitude and demeanor too. I thought he was elite when it came to keeping a tight-knit, cohesive unit on the locker room. Definitely fit well with KG and the vets in that regard. I'll miss this era a lot.

Sounds corny, but I came shortly after Bird's time... and I have a feeling this is the era of Celtics basketball I'll remember most fondly.

doc was very down to earth and was very cool with the celtic fans present at the duke vs fsu game, something that surprised me. he took a pic with every single one who came up to him asking for one, and he did it with a smile... after i took the pic with him he said thanks to me...

i think he truly is loyal to the c's fans and will always be.

I will miss rivers. The man can draw up a play as well as he can handle the media and he motivates like no other in the NBA.

He represented the team with class and I can't blame him for wanting to continue to compete for titles. At this point I think what really happened was rivers will only coach for teams who desire to compete for titles. Boston no longer wants to do that because they cant presently.

I mean they want too. Yet they know it's not feasible as they are currently constructed. Rivers is wasting his time and the teams if he can't commit to that. Obviously he can't and that's honestly understandable.

I'm cool with the pick bc it's rare you ever get assets for a coach and I wish him nothing but success.
