How could you make this trade work as far as throw ins/draft picks to make salaries match?
LAC gets:
PP $15.3
KG $11.5
Total: $26.8
UTAH gets:
D Jordan $10.9
C Butler $8
Bledsoe $2.6
Total: $21.5
Boston gets:
(Since both are FA salaries are hypothetical)
Al Jefferson $12
Paul Milsap $10
Total: $22
Why it makes sense for each team:
LAC: Brings in two championship pedigreed vets who have LA ties and won't be asked to carry the load like they did in Boston. As long as CP3 re-signs, makes them the odds on favorites for 2013-2014. With Pierce coming off the books in 2014, gives them some much needed cap room after the questionable Deandre Jordan contract. They get to trade away a bad contract and get something in return for a guy in Bledsoe that they would never be able to keep in the open market.
Utah: They fumbled the ball at the trade deadline by not dealing either Jefferson or Milsap. If they S&T both they essentially get some value for them. By getting Bledsoe, they shore up the shakiest position on their team with a dynamic young guy who could be their PG of the future. Adding Jordan to their stable of young bigs would solidify that rotation for years to come and Butler is a more than serviceable backup for Gordon Hayward.
Boston: I think that with the core of Rondo, Green and Bradley that even if they try to "blow it up" they will still be just good enough to not be a high lottery team. They're a borderline playoff team and at worst would probably be in the 8-12 draft range. So basically, with our core right now, we'd be stuck in rebuilding purgatory. This trade allows us to rebuild on the fly. A Rondo, Bradley, Green, Milsap, Jefferson lineup is pretty nice and although Milsap and Jefferson aren't spring chickens, they've still got 3-4 more peak years left.
I'm no collective bargaining expert, so tell me why this would or wouldn't work...
