Disclaimer:  Make a big leap of faith here that Greg Oden can get healthy, and stay healthy.

1)  PP - Want him to retire a Celtics, and in limited minutes, he can still get it done.  If you were another team, would you sign Pierce, today, for 3 Years, 8m,7m,6m?  Total of 21m over 3?  If so, then you go to Pierce, and say, we will bring you back at 15m, which you aren't getting from anyone else, and pay you 3m for the next two years, total of 21m over 3.  He retires a Celtic, gets to look good in the fans as giving the team a "discount" for the remaining two years, and the Celtics get a servicable vet player that can hit 3's for the last two.  He retires as one of the most loved C's ever.

2)  Oden.  Sign him.  Take a chance (providing he seems medically able to play.)  Give him 3m (have no idea of what the cap rules are anymore, or if we can use the MLE) Just find a way to get it done, and get a team option after the first year for two more years at what ever raises you are allowed from there.  If he can't get healthy, you don't exercise the option.  We need size, and rebounding.

3)  Bring Pierce off the bench next year.

Rondo / JET
Avery / Lee
Green / PP
Sullinger / Bass
KG / Oden

That is the best option for this team.  We will never get equal value for KG and Pierce.

If we get Oden, we have a solid young core of
Rondo,
Avery
Green
Sullinger
Oden

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
I cringe at the thought of Bass still being here this year.

Secondly, what about our 16th draft pick? If we draft Dieng, then he is no doubt NBA ready, as soon as he learns and gains more time on the court.

I'm hoping Melo can at least pan out, or get 5-10 minutes.

Oden is a risk I'm willing to take, simply because Rondo/Bradley/Green/Oden/Sully is one hell of a interesting team that is really young.

It's based on your perspective, quite simply
