As an it analyst for more than a decade, we highly believe Windows OS is a bad-good-bad-good pattern

Win 98 - Good
Win ME - Worst
*Win XP* - Great
Win Vista - Bad
Win 7 - Good
Win 8 - ???

I haven't messed around with 8 all that much, and I'm definitely not an expert, but if you are going the all-in-one touchscreen route, I think 8 would be the way to go.

I built a new computer like 2 months ago with windows 8. So far I am impressed. Maybe Microsoft did realize their mistake in the past and tried to do well with the Win 8.

I like their fast startup time, and its very efficient. I have no problems with it so far and definitely would recommend it. I'm also planning to get the Surface RT soon too.

Ok, I have one other question for Win8 users.  Is it really necessary to get a touch screen desktop to get the most out of the OS?

Touch screen on a desktop just seems silly.

I think my cousin has windows 8 and to bring the look that you're use to (the start button), you can click that windows button by the alt key and it makes your screen look like windows 7.

I prefer 7, it seems more flowing and simple

It's not necessary at all. Its something that is fun to have, but in no way necessary to enjoy Windows 8.

Definitely Windows 7.

Don't pay money to beta test the new Windows.

Just built a new PC (desktop) and used Windows 8.

It's not too much different but it's just faster from all my experience, which is a good thing of course.  It starts up ridiculously fast.

If you go 7 that's fine, but don't listen to the hate.  It's way overboard, I don't get it.  Anything you might miss from 7 or before (like the start) can easily be accessed or recreated.  And as I said it's just faster.

I quite like the Windows screen too.  Very customizable and more useful than the Start menu.

http://www.eweek.com/mobile/idc-reports-worst-ever-q1-pc-sales-points-to-windows-8/

Windows 8 is to blame for bad PC sales this quarter apparently. People apparently would rather use tablets with "dedicated" touch screen software.

Interesting tidbit. The OP probably bought her/his computer already but hopefully this dilutes the sour taste of tonight's game.
