Doc Rivers said Kevin Garnett will be back on the floor soon, suggesting the 36-year-old center could return as early as Friday's visit from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Garnett has missed the Celtics’ past seven games with inflammation in his left foot. Boston has gone 3-4 in his absence.

"He’ll play soon," Rivers said Thursday during his weekly appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI. "He’ll play -- I don’t know if he’ll play Friday -- but I think he’ll be playing pretty soon."

A team source said that forward Kevin Garnett, who missed his seventh consecutive game with inflammation in his left ankle, is expected to return to action Friday against the Cavaliers.

I think KG and PP should just rest it out for the remainder of the regular season

I agree.

This  is the time to figure out the rest of the roster, albeit in limited time. See who can make the rotation in the playoffs and who's not.

Me too. No sense in risking another injury to either of them.

Maybe 20 minutes max, no matter how the game is going.

Updating a previous item, Kevin Garnett (ankle) may return on Sunday against the Wizards.
A team source told the Boston Globe that Garnett was expected back Friday, but Doc Rivers has already ruled him out of that game. Garnett will not practice on Thursday, but he might participate in Friday's shootaround. The earliest we'll see Garnett is Sunday, but that return date is not set in stone.

I doubt we'll see KG come back prior to the last couple of games.

I suspect he'll play limited minutes in the last 2 or 3 games, in order to get back into rhythm.  Bringing him back before that seems like an unnecessary risk.

Pierce will likely continue to get entire games off for the remainder of the regular season as well.  There's very little danger of falling to the 8th seed, and no difference between the 6th and 7th seed.  Health is more important.

Just rest, purposely get the #8 seed and hello  LeBron James, Ray Allen, and Miami!

Play KG and PP until we secure 7th seed, then rest them.

Just hope he's healthy. That's the most important thing.

Nah, bringing them in cold to the playoffs is a good way to quickly drop a game or two.  If they can play we need to work them back into a rhythm these last 2 weeks - this goes for KG and PP as individuals but also the units they're playing with.  Limited minutes, but they should be out there.
