I'm pumped about this, With Adrian Wilson and Devin at safety, Talib and Dennard at corner. We might actually have an above average secondary. Next on the list Sign John Abraham. And we might get one more ring. Go Pats!

The Patriots have re-signed cornerback Aqib Talib to a one-year deal, a league source told ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The move was a pivotal one for the franchise this offseason, as Talib was an integral addition to the defense after his acquisition at the trade deadline last season.

The 26-year old Talib returned an interception for a touchdown in the first of six regular-season games he played for the team, and quickly emerged as the team's top cornerback. The Patriots' confidence in Talib was reflected in him being used to shadow an opponent's top receiver during stretches of the latter part of the season.

He posted 19 tackles in six regular season games to go along with 10 more in the playoffs.

Talib was forced to leave the AFC Championship due to an injury suffered early in the game, and the Patriots secondary struggled as a result of it.

It's been a slow developing cornerback market thus far in free agency, and Talib was considered by many to be the top player available at the position.

The Patriots came to terms on a four-year deal with Kyle Arrington on Friday, as well as veteran safety Adrian Wilson. Those moves and the re-signing of Talib help to fortify the secondary, an area of focus for the team this offseason.

This is a move the Pats needed to get down.

No qualms about the contract.  Talib is certainly talented but also a bit of a nutjob.  Make him earn it.  If it doesn't work out, you're not taking a signifcant hit on it.

I'm pumped about this, With Adrian Wilson and Devin at safety, Talib and Dennard at corner. We might actually have an above average secondary. Next on the list Sign John Abraham. And we might get one more ring. Go Pats!
That is, provided that Dennard stays out of jail. Also, there's the annual hope that Dowling can stay healthy.

Any insight on Talib's salary this season? I'd guess anywhere in the 4-6 mil range.

This was the one thing I felt they really needed to get done. I wanted this done more than the welker thing. Patriots defense looked so much better when he was there. The second he went down the ravens torched us.

Yes, agreed. The loss of Talib in the Ravens game, and how things turned from there was telling.

Given the "soft" market for CBs, I'd like to see the Pats sign another. Seems like good business.

I don't know that you're going to see much of Dennard...Not looking good for him here.
