Luck throws a TD on his first pass in the preseason and there is a comparison to Manning (who did the same thing) right away.

This is going to be a hard way to start a career.  Every pass, every play being compared to one of the top two QBs of an era.  (who of course is still playing)

Of course in DC, all I hear is the comparison of Griffin and Luck.

Ya, but thats just the way it goes, same thing happened to rogers and Favre.

I guess lucky for Luck the rest of the team is in a bit of a rebuilding mode as well so if they arent immediately super succesful some of the blame can be placed there and take some pressure off Luck.

Great point.  I think that if Luck is mentally tough enough and skilled enough to live up to his billing over time that it will not matter in the long run.  Nobody talks about Favre now when they are discussing Aaron Rodgers.  Rodgers has carved out his own legacy.

Conversely, if Luck isn't mentally tough enough to deal with the pressure, he was likely going to be a bust anyway.

He's the #1 pick in the draft, the pressure is on, whether Manning or not.  If he is meant to be a legend, the pressure will be a non-factor.

Luck doesn't strike me as the type of kid who will crack under pressure. At Stanford, he struck me as someone who held his composure and comes across a pretty mature for someone his age. He certainly has the physical tools to be an excellent QB in the NFL.

Saw some highlights of RG3's first preseason game and he didnt look like a rookie, either. Very intrigued about what this kid might be able to do in the pros.

Disagree. I only heard much about the Rogers Favre comparisons *after* Favre left (and as a Cal graduate, believe me I had my ear tuned). Rogers was given time to grow and mature as a player for a few seasons before really being thrown into the spotlight.
Celtics fan for life.
