Look at the guys surrounding him.

Kobe- 34
Gasol- 32
Nash- 38 going on 39
Jamison- 36
Artest- 32 going on 33

Realistically they can contend for 2 more years. But after that Dwight will be stuck there with no one. So why would he sign an extension when he can probably have his way and leave and play for Brooklyn when he's a FA? Do you think LA knows he won't resign and are just picking up for o last run?

I can't wait for the Fakers to be irrelevant again.

Zero, he won't sign an extension its for less money.

He will 95% sign a new contract with the Lakers as they can offer him 20 million dollars or so more than anyone else.

Agreed.  Even if the team around him is old, Howard knows that LA will always be a destination for free agents.  He also knows that the franchise will do what it needs to do to stay in contention.

A near certainty (99.99%) that Dwight Howard signs an extension and stays with the Lakers.

He may end up demanding another trade 4-5 years from now though ... depending on how well / quickly LA rebuild after their older stars move on.

My 5% is probably too high, 1%. If there is something catostrophic that happens to/with Kobe/Gasol he might leave. Basically the same chance as him getting hit by lightning.

Money talks. He's getting the most money in L.A. That means he's staying. Also, Lakers will always pull this kind of trades out of their behinds as long as they're located where they are.

Chances he signs an extension? Probably approaching zero. He'd be giving up an incredible amount of money by doing so.

If you're asking whether he signs another long term deal with LA, I'd guess the chances are very high.

0% he signs an extension.  I would say probably 80% chance he signs a bird rights contract after the season with the Lakers.

Chance that Dwight signs an extension (or resigns with LA)?

Slightly better than the chance:
- that the sun will come up again tomorrow
- that ocean water will remain salty
- that gravity will kick in if (when) Orlando fans throw their GM off a roof for this deal
- that Jack Nicholson keeps his front row Laker tickets

The only problem is that with the new deals everyone signed in Brooklyn, there's really no way for him to go there via free agency anymore.

So I'm really not sure where he'd rather be than LA.  And while those guys are old, they will also all eventually retiring, when Dwight and the allure of LA can probably draw more talent there to replace them.
