Can we afford to keep both? If we can, I would like to see Xmas on this team as well as Joseph. If not, then just Joseph- I agree with what many have written about him already.
Until JG's deal goes on the books we won't know how much $ we have to throw around, but we're already cutting it very close to a hard cap. The Luxury Tax apron (a hard cap for the Celts) is 74.3 m- but I think Danny will want to use the BAE at some point this season, so we have to subtract 1.9 m from that figure to ensure our ability to use that asset. That means we need to remain under 72.4 m at the start of the season.
With our current roster (counting guaranteed contracts only- so not Joseph) coming in at ~70 m, is there room to add Joseph and Christmas? Yes, but what about Dooling and/or Pietrus? The numbers are too complicated for me to figure out (I know vet min contracts are partially paid for by the league, but how much do the Celts have to pay?), so I'm not sure of the answers to those questions.
I, personally, would love to see Dooling (min), Pietrus (min) and Joseph to round out the roster, but I seriously doubt Pietrus will come back for a min salary (maybe our Bird rights will be enough, but I'm not confident). Now that we have Lee I think the BAE might be best saved for a mid-season buyout pickup (previously I had argued for us to offer MP the BAE).
So I predict that the Celts will resign Dooling, guarantee Joseph's contract, and sign Xmas (if there's still $). I think it comes down to whether or not there's money to spare (while staying below 72.4 m to start the season).
