I have to say I am really suprised that we have not signed Aaron gray or have not heard anything about him as a possibility at center.
He is no superstar. But, we don't need a superstar - we have that at a lot of other spots.
What we need in our "center mix" is a big, tough, banger who likes to hit people coming down the lane. Signing Gray simply so he could hammer Wade and LeBron for roughly 4-5 good, hard old fashion fouls a game woudl make his signing well worth the money.
He averaged about 4 points and 6 boards a game last year in 16 minutes of playing time. He is a legit 7 foot, 270 pound guy.
To me, he's the perfect fit for our center mix:
KG & Wilcox = speed
Melo = Yojng athleticism, size and length.
Aaron Gray = A real true hard hitting 7 foot, 270 pound guy
I think he would do very well around the basket with the bunnies he'd be given because he has decent hands.
He also plays Bynum very physically - and wouldn't hurt to have him leaning on Howard when necessary.
Would give us a lot of flexibility with lineups in the front court:
I say, sign this guy and another wing and be done with the off season.
KG / Gray / Melo
Bass / Wilcox / Sully
Pierce / Green / Pietrus
Courtney Lee / Bradley / Joseph or Christmas
Rondo / Jet / Dooling or Jamar Smith
* Don't forget, with Lee and let's say Pietrus / Jet - Bradley can spend a few more minutes at point behind Rondo this year. He did just fine there last year while Rondo was out...Jet can play some point too
That team is locked and loaded for speed, size, bully ball, small ball, whatever you want.
I think Gray would just be the ideal signing that would give us something we don't have on the team so far.
A true, relatively young seven footer with no major injury history.
