I am surprised that Danny hasn't already locked Dooling up on a minimum contract.

No need for Dooling to be anything more than a third string PG with Rondo, Terry and Bradley here. I could understand the hesitation if talking about Dooling as the primary backup PG ... but I don't understand why there is any hesitation about bringing him back as an insurance policy / energy guy / locker room presence type of third string PG.
The only reason this hasn't happened is probably because he's still holding out hope to use his bird rights to form a salary ballast for a sign and trade.

Now that those possibilities are evaporating I think he'll sign him to that sort of deal.

I get the feeling Dooling is headed the way of Scals, Stackhouse, and others: His career's winding down, but he clearly wants to get involved with coaching after he can't crack it on the floor.

Do we have a roster spot for a dude like that?

No we don't.  We may keep up to 5 rookies and 2nd year players, most of whom are going to be getting their playing time in practice or in Portland.  This leaves no room for a coach in a uniform.

I don't see the Celtics keeping all 5.

I do see Dooling, who showed up in the playoffs, back at the vet min.

I bet the only way we don't keep all 5 is if we trade one of them in the same S&T that involves Dooling.

Don't see Keyon at 32, improving on his career 7ppg(4ppg with C's). Rumored to be a good teammate and locker room presence, but not into his "flexing"(better than "Jet" still). He led and brought energy to one of the worst benches the C's ever put together. Bring him back, sure he's better than 2.8 postseason avg.

Come on guys. Dooling is a mentor to Avery Bradley at best at this point. He did pour in 2 clutch 3's in the ECF though  ;D

Dooling would be a solid pickup.  Doc is obviously comfortable with him, as he played the 2 at times last season next to Rondo.  Considering the true need is for someone to step in right away and play Avery Bradley minutes and then step back into, at best, a 5 minute per game role, he could be a very nice fit here.

I thought through summer league, we were finding his replacement. He failed to score consistently and barely racked up any assists. I just don't see it, but C's have refused to give his jersey number up.
