I want to see what Stiemsma is getting and asking for. Don't want to pay him 3 M if that's the number.
I believe Darko & his contract $ is better value.

C's couldn't pay him $3M without getting back their MLE and then giving the majority of it to him--not what I expect to happen.

Yep, who knows what Stiemsma is wanting.

Regardless, at best, we're talking a 4th or 5th big off the bench right ? Darko is better value.

At the very worst, Darko upgrades Hollins.

I'd take Stiemer at the BAE over Darko at the vet minimum.

Though I can see Danny wanting to use that on someone like Dahntay Jones if he can't swing a S&T, but the playoffs I think they'd be better off with quality at the center position than another old-guy swingman on the bench.

I wouldn't. His per 36 is almost identical to Stiemsma, and will cost much less. Averages almost 9 PPG, and 6 Rebounds.

Not surprisingly, people here WAY overvalue Steamer.

Steamer gets a whole lotta love for a guy who couldn't stop me and my dad running a pick and roll (even when Avery Bradley is the one guarding me).

I would go with Stiemsma.

I think Darko is a fair bit better at this point but that Stiemsma could surpass him by the end of this season with some hard work. I am doubtful Darko will be anything more than he currently is at this stage of his career. I don't think he'll put the work in. So I'd take a chance on Stiemsma over Darko if I had the choice.

I don't overvalue him. He's an NBA scrub. But he's about as good as all the other scubs we've got to pick from in his spot.
Peace through Tyranny

Steam is very good defensively, he knows the system...

FICTION.

Stiemsma was slow on rotations and committed dumb, ticky-tack fouls.

In the first quarter of Game 6 against Miami, when LeBron was just starting to go off and KG was inexplicably gassed after 3 minutes, we needed Steimsma to come in and send a message.  Instead he came in and picked up 4 fouls in 3 minutes (none of which were hard) and it's not because he was sending a message.  It was because he plays defense with his hands, he's slow, and was basically just all-around over-whelmed.

You think you'd fall in love with the way Darko Milicic plays defense?

Remember, Stiemsma was played hurt most of last year.  The guy who started the season blocking 6 shots in his first game wasn't the guy we saw the rest of the year.  He never practiced or did shoot arounds.  He wore a boot most of the year on one foot and was hobbled on the other.

Now maybe this is going to be something like Walton's feet and never get better, I don't know.  But the Stiemsma at the start of the year was pretty dominant defensively.  What was left of him in the playoffs was a hobbled shell.

Pietrus was the same way.  He never made it back to what he was before that concussion.  The preconcussion Peaches was a terror defensively and knocked down threes.  The Pietrus in the playoffs seemed to be falling down a lot.
