Joseph looks more solid than Pietrus. Want to make sure he gets a spot. Same with Dionte Christmas and Moore.

Time to get some young blood on the parquet!

Not sure that both Christmas and Moore aren't redundant?  I really like Christmas over Moore, he is playing like a man among boys--a much better defender, makes far less mistakes...just doing everything right and playing as a big physical point here and there--I am very impressed.  And Joseph could really turn into an athletic, long all around 2/3.  We need roster spots for these 2!~

Let's not get carried away.  Joseph is a late second round pick who has had a few good summer league games.  Pietrus is a playoff tested veteran who has proven he can lock down elite wings and has proven that he belongs in 8 man playoff rotation on very good teams (here and Orlando).

And even if Joseph has a few advantages over him (and I'm not read to say that after watching the likes of Joe Forte and Kedrick Brown dominate summer league games), I ultimately question whether that matters.  With role players, it's really having 1-2 elite skills that make you valuable.  Being pretty good at everything often is enough.

Pietrus is an elite defender and a good weakside shooter.  If Joseph can't prove he's great at something, the fact that he might be a better 1-on-1 scorer (or something like that) doesn't really matter that much.  The Celtics aren't going to run plays for him.

Pietrus isn't an elite defender, I don't think he ever was. He certainly isn't now with his overall decline.

The balky knee doesn't help either.

Yeah, hopefully this second surgery actually allows it to recover.

I'd love to have him back, still a valuable role player. But I wont' be heartbroken as long as we get a quality replacement. (which could be dicey given our limited resources)

Yes, Mickael Pietrus is still an elite level NBA wing defender.  He had some excellent defensive stretches in the playoffs last year.

It would be nice if he could get his long range shooting back to some semblance of his career numbers.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

I think Pietrus is definitely an elite wing defender. His bad knee bothered him this season, but at 100% he's a brutally tough defender. Even with the bung knee he was excellent against Wade, Lebron and the younger Philly stars.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think that Pietrus, Daniels Pavlovic will be replaced by Green, Pietrus, Joseph. That's some serious improvement IMO
