Folks, I think it's kinda clear. For the most part, for the past two seasons, Ray's been in the classic *SG decline* mode where in effect, the *catch & shoot* became the only staple of his game. And then, that's only good for 1 out of 2 games whereas the other times, he'd be out of energy.
And then finally, he didn't belong to the core anymore, with the Rondo-KG-Pierce triangle. In effect, he became the afterthought and the 2-3 times he was almost traded by DA, really drove that home for him.
Now, granted that Doc overplays the big three (whenever he gets nervous or haughty), what were the chances of Ray having a stellar post-season, during the final years of his career, ages 37-40? Probably very little. In effect, with him on Miami, all he's needed for is that "Robert Horry" 4th quarter wide open three and free throws, since the Heat will always get their opponents over the team foul limit in major playoff games. Thus, with a minimum of 10-12 mins per contest, Ray can finish his career with a lot of Horry-like playoff scenarios. If I were him, that's how I'd like to cap off my career, minimal physical effort, followed by maximum return on that effort. And then, with that final 3 on the buzzer, in the Finals, I could hang up my shoes and go off into the sunset and have Mai Tai's for the rest of my life, coaching a YMCA league.
