Why haven't the OKC Thunder offered this package to solidify a title?

If I was the Thunder GM. I wouldn't stand pat & just think next year is our year. The Lakers getting Nash just made them co-favorites if not better than the Thunder, so I would jump in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes & go for it. The Magic would love to deal Howard out of the conference & this package might be the best yet.

This is one of the better ideas I've seen on this board in a while.

The sad thing is that the big thing keeping it from happening would be Howard and his prima donna attitude.

Westbrook, Durant and Howard would rival the Heat's big 3. And the other supporting pieces (Sefolosha, Collison, Ibaka) are good.

Plus, you have Presti making smart choices in the front office, you know he won't ruin the franchise.

Unfortunately, Dwight Howard is like a 3 year old who missed his nap time. He'd either nix the trade or ruin things after the fact.

disagree -- it would take at least both firsts.  Harden is starter quality.  Jones is unproven.  Perk is limited as a player (love him for his time here but tbh he's a limited player) and the OKC picks would be very late in the draft.  In fact, OKC would probably have to throw in a  couple of other bench guys AND take on Hedo's contract as well to get Orlando to do a deal.

No it wouldn't because Orlando has no leverage of any kind.  They aren't getting an offer anywhere near as good as either of the ones proposed in this thread and thus, the Thunder would be overpaying.

Adding Howard to Durrant would make for the best duo in the NBA.


They will have the best trio whether they keep Harden or Westbrook. 



But Thunder should only do such a deal if Howard agrees to an extension.

That's exactly what I thought - nobody else can offer better.  One 1st is more than enough to get this done.  Next best offers are Brook Lopez centered pu pu platter or Bynum with no picks.

Regarding OKC being a small market, Durant is one of the NBA's most marketable stars. KD made $11m in endorsement cash in 2011.  Howard made $12m in Orlando.  Being in the Finals every year and winning rings will shoot both those numbers upwards.

Agree. Dwight is a combination of the skills that Ibaka and Perk bring to their team, but at a more elite level and in a single player. He's good for 36 minutes a game, and they were playing 52 minutes. There are a lot of guys in the league you can plug in at PF when the front court already has Dwight and Durant to cover that remaining 16 minutes. Depending how good PJ3 really is, they may already have one.

In the NBA skill consolidation and increased talent are almost always a good thing.

Agree totally with Wiggle Boris.

Plus for OKC it might be worth the gamble additionally (a) b/c if Howard bolts you have his Bird Rights to get something back (pieces, not a replacmenet) and (b) if you let him walk rather than S&T you have cap room --- and smart FA's (which exclude DHo...) would kill to play with Durant/Westbrook to compete for a title.

It's not worth it, unless they can get Howard to agree to stay in writing. I'm pretty sure he has a wheel with all the teams names on it, everyday he wakes up and spins it, whatever it lands on, that's the team he wants to go to.

Howard is too much of a nutcase.
