Report: Garnett to retire or return to Celtics

The only way I am for bringing back Pierce is if KG comes back. To me, KG is the key. If he opts to retire, then blow it up. Trade Pierce to Sac for Ty Evans and 5th pick. Draft Drummond. Re-sign Jeff Green. S&T Ray and Bass for Josh Smith.

Green is 6th man and can back up at 3 and 4.

Why would Sacramento or any team give us the #5 pick and Evans for 1-2 years of an aging Paul Pierce?

nothing to see here, move along. seriously, did anyone really believe KG would play anywhere but boston for doc next season (if he choses to play)? granted, i think he might actually retire (some reports coming out talking about how much treatment he has needed for his knee this year...and shaq frequently mentioned that KG was nowhere near 100% last year, either) for all the right reasons.

Former Boston Celtic, and long-time friend of Kevin Garnett's, Sam Cassell says that the pending free agent forward is discussing retirement, but he does not want to play for anyone other than Celtics coach Doc Rivers if he returns, according to ESPN.

Garnett has been a member of the Celtics, under coach Rivers, since the 2007-08 season. The two have seen a great deal of success together. In five seasons together the pair has won the Atlantic Division five times, and they have never finished worse than fourth in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics also won the NBA Finals in 2008.

"KG is a loyal guy," Cassell said. "I can't see him playing for anyone else except Doc at this point."

While multiple teams will likely be lining up to sign Garnett when free agency opens on July 1, Cassell suggests that the 36-year-old has also been discussing retirement recently.

Garnett averaged 19.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game through the postseason.

I knew there was no chance he would go to a team like the Lakers or Nets(like thos morons Dennis and Callahan were saying)  

So here's what happens either kg comes back at around 8 mil and allows us to resign Jeff Green and another impact big (Kaman,Illyasova,Humpheries)

or

KG retires,we let Jeff Green,Ray and Bass walk and then I would make a run at Javel McGee and Illyasova as my main targets splitting 25 mil between them. I think they would make a very good front court tandem moving forward with Rondo.

25 mil for Illyasova and McGee
12 mil for Bradley and Rondo

puts us around 18-20 mil under the cap if we amnesty PP after next season.

I hope he stays for at least one more year. His leadership alone is very valuable for this team, it's young guys and the mentality he's going to instill to them.

SacTown's GM should be fired on the spot if he agrees to this deal. I believe you're way overvaluing Pierce.

If KG goes off in to the sunset, to leave the bar fights behind and enjoy the retired life that he so truly deserves, you press that button you always wanted to when you were a kid but didn't because it was dangerous and this team steams in to rebuilding.

Because why in earth would you rebuild with KG around? Makes no sense for his career......

Under any circumstances, it is hard to read Garnett’s thoughts using traditional means. With all the moving parts in this offseason, it could be nearly impossible.

I wonder who Bulpett's source is.

If Bulpett's reporting is accurate, I wouldn't blame KG for feeling that way.  If the idea is to bring back KG and add a significant free agent, I think you'd have to avoid bringing in an offensive-oriented player with a reputation for not caring about defense in order to make Garnett want to stick around, which is fine by me.

Hasn't he been quoting Sam Cassell on KG's thinking?  My guess it's either Sam or KG's agent.

Kg isn't walking anywhere. He's talking about retirement cuz he's beat up, tired, and just suffered a demoralizing loss.

He'll heal, he'll get over the loss, and he'll realize he has no idea what to do if he's not training to play next season.

I think this as well, on top of his love for the game its the loyalty I think Pierce and Doc would be reason he comes backs as well. He knows how much Doc loves him and wants him to return and probably knows that if he doesn't come back Pierce is shipped to who knows where. They have that bond think he comes back for one more year on a no trade deal.

yea, Pierce was almost begging for Danny and ownership to bring KG back for two more years so they can retire together in the postgame comments.

and that looks to be the case from today's article on KG he is only coming back if Paul remains and we reload to contend again
