Feels weird to say but id rather have pietrus in the game over Ray at this point. Ray looks lost and confused to me, I honestly think he is somewhat mad that he is coming off the bench.

This. When you see he's shooting 12-20 from the line this year for the playoffs you know something is up.

Im not saying he's missing on purpose but i certainly think his concentration is lacking.

Those numbers are so un-ray like it's sad really. But definatley makes you wonder where his mindset is at.

In addition to shooting 61% from the line, he's shooting 29% on threes for the playoffs, unheard of for Ray.  Those are Rondo-esque shooting numbers.

I've felt this way about Ray all season, he's still a nice player... but not for a team that's trying to be one of the best defenses in the NBA Playoffs.

There is also the possibility that Ray might not want to go though surgury and rehab on his ankles and retire. I'm not saying that's what will happen, but I think at his age, it's certainly a possiblity.

His TS% is still .550 for the playoffs, which is below his usual play for the C's but still good.

This year I've been most impressed by his effort on the boards, he has been aggressive about going after defensive rebounds often grabbing them high and in traffic. Pulling in 4.1 rebounds in just 30 MPG compared to 3.8 RPG in 40 MPG.

Nice effort to help the team in an area that it needs as much as it does shooting.

This is just lazy thinking.

To think Ray's defense is bad enough to obsess about is pathetic.

He's obviously hurt and rusty, and his shot isn't falling. His defense is hardly the problem.

What are you talking about? His defense is awful... But it has nothing to do with how good of a player he is or how well hes played defense in his career. He should not be playing on that ankle end of story. I give him a lot of credit for trying, but hes laboring out there and you can see it. He can't keep up with his man on defense with that ankle, end of story

Wrong.

His defense has never been great. IMO he looks pretty good out there. No limp, still moving pretty well, getting rebounds.

As Celtics fans, we just obsess about defense, so we feel the need to blame the weak link defensively.

Sorry, Ray Allen's defense isn't why we are losing.

Well I'm glad to see you've at least backed down from this preposterous stance you had.

Know I'm a bit late in this discussion, but Rays return will be 100% on him and whether he is okay with 1.  A bench role full time, and 2.  A bench player salary.  I feel like Ainge is going to try to lowball him with the bench player angle.  I would like Ray back, he would be a very valuable bench player the second unit could play around, and it would keep his legs fresh and give us a clutch shooter to go to.

Avery Bradley's injury is a legitimate reason to want to bring back Ray Allen for one more year.  Bradley's recovery timetable is four months, which brings him up to the start of training camp.  If his recovery is slower than anticipated, the Celtics need someone who can step in and start.

If you bring back RA on a one-year deal, then you're also bringing back KG and you're probably not clearing cap space to sign a free agent, so it might be a good idea to overpay a bit with a wink-wink deal that he will give the Celtics a bit of a discount if he is worth bringing back beyond that.  So, a respectable amount to offer might be something in the range of salaries for players who finished in the top ten in voting for Sixth Man of the Year.  Beyond that, he might give the equivalent production of a taller Eddie House who isn't a good defender but isn't as much of a liability against taller SGs and he might be worth around what House was getting paid as a Celtic.

I think there are places he could be a 15-20ppg guy.  I'm imagining how he would play if he ended up starting in Brooklyn next to Dwight Howard and Deron Williams.

We could sign Anthony Parker for 2 million
and that wouldn't even be a dropoff from
the 2012-2013 version of Ray.
Heck even Jason Kidd is about equal

Ray will need to accept a 1 year deal for it to be worth bringing him back. Other clubs will be able to give him more than that... that's why he's probably gone.

Problem isn't in Boston plans, problem is with lots of borderline condending teams without true veteran starting SG.
I can easily see Bulls, Clips throwing 2yr+ 10 mill/per at him, not to mention if Broklyn Nets finally get dwight.
And in case of him not getting what he thinks he is worth (I saw on his demeanor last night that he firmly believes he has multiple years of BB left in him) and decides to go to ring chasing route, he has better options elsewhere (ugh... Miami) with greater chances of getting it.

I still firmly believe that if DA doesn't lowball him that he will be back for us, under condition that KG and PP are still there to greet him.
