Midseason form.  KG is playing near-dominant ball at times, Ray is shooting, Rondo is doing his thing, and JO is injured.

The things to watch are the development of Bradley into a regular minutes player with an 18ft jumper, and...we'll, that's it.  The guys will grind out some wins and battle the top teams with verve, but we're not over the top.

So enjoy the vets coming into top shape and getting things well in tune, even as they can't play well consistently there are spurts of nice ball, but there's not much to watch for the future right now.

Might I suggest watching for the present?  The future's gonna come no matter what.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
While I understand the way you feel, I find your post outright sad because you cannot enjoy what they have accomplished under the circumstances. In many ways this is the Celtics we always knew. Fighting to be something more than what people perceive.

I'll agree with everybody else who has been chiming in. This season has been hard to stomach and hard on being a fan but in a way it has had its rewards too. You can see things coming together a bit. The play has gotten better except when we just don't show up like we did last night. But when we do play, we play hard and give it our all. We have lapses but they seem to be getting fewer as the season progresses (except like last night).

KG has been amazing for the past month or so. He's getting me more fired up than any Celtic. I can't wait to see what he brings to the Playoffs. Rondo had played a lot better too. His sloppiness went away for a time and his leadership was much better (except he was horrid last night). You want to watch a rising star, watch Bradley. Give this kid another year or two and he could be special. Steisma is also on the upswing. Pierce takes nights off but when he brings it, he is the captain. Ray Allen still has those sweet 3's from game to game. Some games he is invisible and other games he is the difference. The bench is contributing more and the team is gelling. The biggest thing I think this team has is a great camaraderie. I really think come playoff time, this team is going to come together and give us everything they have. I honestly think we could shock a team or two. We're going to be a very tough out even with our glaring weaknesses.

For some reason even with everything and everybody telling us to give up, if you've been watching the games its hard not to see signs of hope and progress and chances that we could be good. Call it green glasses. The season seems like a practice for the playoffs.

The reason I feel you viewpoint is sad is unlike previous seasons you watched with a feeling of hope, this year you've put conditions on why should you watch? I don't care if they suck for the next 20 years. I'll still be watching and hoping they don't tank. I always want them to win. Even if the biggest thing they can win that season is the next game.

The only condition I need to watch is because they're the Celtics. Their my team. I don't need any other reason. Thats the reason I watch. If they had 15 Marquis's and Doolings. Id be right there cheering them on.

Because they're the Celtics and their my Team. That's the only condition I need.

Have the Celtics traditionally been underestimated?  That hasn't been my sense at all.

Been a Celtic fan all my life, (which is, unfortunately, well before the Bird years), and the worst years were some of the Pierce years before KG and Ray came.

Sorry to disagree, but there were a couple of years during that period when there was literally "no hope". We watched because of The Truth, (and a while with 'Toine), and that was it.

If there was hope it was manufactured and a result of that green blood and those green glasses and the dream of Celtic Pride, and had nothing to do with reality.

It's how we survived those years as fans, and how those hardcore few of us came out on the other side still grasping that dream. We watched because of Paul, and not because there was any hope of making it deep.

Yeah, we're certainly getting our stripes of late and it's not fun, but it doesn't come close to then. It was bad, so bad that a .500 record was considered a great record, and almost unatainable.

Those were the lean years, and the years when many just couldn't hold on, and the deluded few of us who did were almost sorry for it. But it's also how we made it, and it was easier than changing the color of our blood.

But those years are what left a lasting mark, not just a scar, but a perspective that helps us realize that at times like these, (when we are above .500, pretty much assured of a playoff berth, with three superstars and a budding one, but struggling a bit), we are still ok.

So believe me when I say, there is hope, plenty of it, plenty to be thankful for and plenty to enjoy. If you're at that point where watching is more painful than not, then I'd say it's time to take those green glasses out of their case.

Time to get things in perspective and be reminded of how bad it once was, and how this isn't even close. Time to take a deep breath and be thankful for the past few years, and thankful that we're only missing a piece or two and not seven or eight or more.

Thankful that it's still fun to be a Celtic fan, and thankful that we're not Charlotte or Sacramento or New Orleans ... because there was a time not so long ago when we were.

Turn the set back on and watch, cuz struggles or not, they're still exciting, and all we've got, and sooner or later you'll be back ... why not make it sooner?

Life's too short, and so is the NBA season. ;)

Well said, Brother - ALL of this.

TP.

Let's be thankful for where we are at right now, folks.

Danny did his absolute best to get a piece or two on Thursday - even to the point of upsetting some GM.

Even with this, we are just a piece or two away from competing once again.

Danny will be busy this summer, and have some money to spend. I hope he takes a LONG look at Kyle O'Quinn :).

We have a bright PG to build around in Rondo.

Turn that set back on, LarBrd33. We still have something good here.

And while we are at it, let's not forget that there is STILL an ever-so-small shot at doing something this post season.

Last night's game was terrible, but I still believe.

Bye, y'all, check back when John Hollinger has us ranked as the top contender.
I don't even care if we're a top contender.  I'd rather we be developing young players for the future than seeing us trot out a mediocre old team.  In this league you are either competing for a title or trying to put yourself in position to compete for a title.  This season we are doing neither.  We are renting KG and Ray for the remainder of the season and then we will start rebuilding next year.  This season is like a straight-to-video sequel of a popular movie franchise... a cash grab with some familiar faces.  "Aladdin 4:  The Rise of Stiesma"

I think that was to Sasha when we blew out the Blazers.

Since Jan. 4th...we went on a miserable run, then evened out before the break. After the break we've been winning games but playing inconsistently (not beating bad teams by enough, uneven performances against good teams). KG's been pretty solid, but he's had to play the 5 because JO and Wilcox went down. Stiemsma and Bradley have emerged as a contributors.  Pietrus went in a slump but might be coming out of it. Dooling hasn't gotten over his nearly yearlong slump. Rondo has night's where he's the best PG in the league and night's when he's outplayed by Isaiah Thomas (the rookie, not the legend). Fun ride, we'll see where it goes. We're right in the mix for the 4-7th playoff spot. Anything above 6 will be best so we don't have to play the Heat, Bulls, or Magic in the 1st round.
"Suit up every day."

Well, when you see a family member going through something like this, you are compelled to try to help.

Most painful team in the History of All Sports to watch. Don't do it, you wont be missing anything. Someday there will be some highlight reel of all these great players amassed together and I'll be happy. Until then I can say that I can't bear to even watch my 3-4 all time fave players OF ALL TIME. For me there will never be such a group of unique players of this caliber on my forever team. It's been sad for me for far too long and I almost wished they would blow it up. The hope in me that they stick together even next year to make even another run is this glimmer of hope that something amazing would happen. But we all know this isnt true. The desire, ability, inconsistency and my unyielding disbelief of their inability to rebound is beyond all I can even conceive.
