getting ahead of myself on this but I don't think Danny is going to pull the trigger on any major deals this year for 2 reasons:
1) he won't get decent value for the assets he would like to trade.
2) The assets he can get won't be the type he can use to build on going forward and won't be enough to put this team into contention this year.
With that in mind, here's what I think would be a possible scenario for next year when Danny tries to get another run out of this team.
- after season, renounce rights to KG, Ray, JO and Moore to free up the cap holds tied to their salaries.
- set up "gentlemen's agreement with KG and Ray to bring them back with cap $ on low salary contracts (2.5 mill) for 1 more year.
- Take a run at Hibbert as a RFA but realistically shoot for Kaman as a UFA. He's making 12.7 this year but since he has some health issues and is not a spring chicken, see if he'll take 10 mill for a year. (I'll assume he does for now).
- take a run at one of Asik, Nazr or Gray as a back up C for 2-3 mill. if that fails, bring back Wilcox for 2 mill.
- resign Green for 5-6 mill
- resign KG and Ray for 2.5-3 mill per year.
- resign Peitrus for 3 mill
- try Foye for 2 mill or TJ Ford for vet min.
- now use rights to resign Bass to 6-7 mill for a year.
Next year's team:
C: Kaman, Nazr (most likely)
PF: KG, Bass, JJJ
SF: PP, Green
SG: Ray, Pietrus
PG: RR, Foye, Avery,
& 2 1st rounders and 1 2nd (or Moore if he gets a camp invite and makes the team or Wilcox is brought back for Center depth.)
Optional: keep Moore and skip Foye but I think the C's need a vet that can cover PG in case RR goes down with an injury.
The optimistic outlook is that Kaman gives the team a solid scorer/rebounder/defender. The second unit with Bass/Green/Pietrus (and whoever backs up Rondo and Kaman) should be capable of scoring against other second units and holding/building leads.
