Boston is now 15-14.  They have 4 upcoming road games vs. Detroit, Dallas, OKC and Cleveland.  It's seems quite likely Boston could be sub-500 after that.  There are then 4 homes games against Milwaukee, New Jersey, New York and Houston, followed by a game a Philly and then home against Portland.  It's hard to see the Celtics riding a long winning streak after that, given how they've played up to now.

Then comes a stretch of 8 games in 12 days against the Lakers, Clippers, Golden State, Sacramento, Denver, Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philly.

Basically, if this team doesn't start winning RIGHT NOW, not in a week or a month, missing the playoffs is going to become a real possiblity.

What will we know for certain?

And this team would have to really fall apart to miss the playoffs, particularly with the injuries to Bogut and Varajao.

the only thing we'll know for certain anytime soon is whether or not Danny is going to make any major moves during this season, or if he'll wait to start the rebuild until this summer.

I think original poster has a good point here.  While I find it hard to believe that we would miss the playoffs at our current trajectory, I don't want to get into the playoffs only to get destroyed by Miami in the 1st round.

Better to start rebuilding now.

We won't know till March 1st when the free agents since before the season can be traded.

Stay healthy, rebound the basketball, help each other on D, pass the ball, always look for the right shot. Mostly rebounds. I think we'll be alright. I don't care if we're the 8th seed. Make the playoffs and we'll take it from the there. People underestimated us in 2010 and they'll do it again. To me, an underdog is a good dog.

PS. Did I mention rebounding?
