I don't mind the idea og Pietrus starting and Ray off the bench. I also could see Moore off the bench as a back up 2. The thing I don't get is it turns into a trade Ray tread, but like the trade Rondo ones is never about for what.
I mean I love Ray but would I trade him for Howard? Sure. Same for Rondo, I would trade him for someone like Paul. Not saying there are real options, but if you're going to ask if you'd trade someone you should include for who. I'm include Ray in a trade for a number of players in this league.

I don't know, probably fewer times than its brought up here and then I or someone else points out that synergy and other stats that actually track how well he defends pick and rolls grade him as near the top of the NBA.

Everyone gets beat on the pick and roll, it is the most efficient basic set in basketball and the hardest to guard.

According to Synergy, Rondo is essentially on par with Dwight Howard when it comes to points given up while he's on the floor.  I somehow doubt that's a true measure of their respective defensive impacts on the game, but forgive me for blaspheming against the Almighty Advanced Stats.

I think Ray has always been an average defender. To my knowledge, he has never been put on any of the All Defensive teams. As he has gotten older, I think, he puts his focus on still being a good scorer. Which probably makes him a bit worse at defense.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Stats are what they are. Rondo and DH give up the same number of points to the player that they are guarding. Howard affects the number of points that are scored by players that he wasn't directly guarding, altering the shots of players that beat their man. Those numbers aren't a true measure of their respective defensive impacts on the game  because that's not what those stats are measuring.

First, most of you have shown me metrics measuring offense.  Where are the metrics measuring Ray's utter lack of defensive in most games?

Ah, getting desperate now huh?  I like it.  In reality, Ray is holding his opponents to 42% shooting from the field...below league average.  In fact...he's holding OPPONENTS TO AN EFFICIENCY RATING OF 8.4 According to 82games.com

Please let me know when I said to trade Ray Allen??  I never said that in this thread.  I suggested that the time is now to move him to sixth man.

I get why people might want to move Ray but from a chemistry standpoint, I'm not sure. I feel like the Big 3 has an ego as a unit and wouldn't want that change.

Ray does more than just shoot. He constantly makes the guy defending him run and is just really smart offensively. He plays off of his great shooting to beat guys off the dribble or pull up off the dribble. He's a serviceable defender.

And I think Ray's a rhythm shooter. He's never struck me as a Eddie House, Nate Robinson, even Pietrus instant offense type player. I feel like he likes to ease his way into games. Could be way off on that though.
