Everyone talks about trading 1 of our big 4 to help build for the future. However I think that is unlikely because 1, only a contending team would want Ray, KG, or Paul but wouldn't have the necessary young assets or matching salaries to make a good trading partner. Most contending teams have veteran players which we wouldn't want in return. Maybe a team like Philly and Utah could be trading partners where we would like some of their young assets but with the challenge of matching large salaries makes it difficult.
With Rondo if you are not trading for Chris Paul or maybe Deron Williams I'd rather keep him.
By the trade deadline when all players will be eligible to be traded we'll have several expiring contracts and some young assets we could move. Signing someone like Dwight Howard or Eric Gordon may be long shots so it could be in our interests in trading with teams that are looking to clear some cap space especially with a bleak free agent crop.
I think Bass is our best trade asset after the big 4 on the team right now. He can be a very good 6th man on a contending team but maybe not someone we want as our starting PF going forward. You could start with him in any trade discussions along with our first round draft picks, NJ's probable high second round we have the next year, any of our other expiring contracts Dooling, Wilcox, Daniels, Pavlovic, Pietrus, our other young players Bradley, Johnson, Moore, and Steimsna.
Something like Bass, Wilcox, Steimsna, and a first for David Lee. I would be looking at similar deals to see what we can get.
It's going to be very hard to hit a home run in a trade or a free agent, so it may be a series of "winning" smaller scale trades that Ainge did prior to the big 3 era to build up our team again.
