It looks like Portland won't sign Batum
http://www.csnnw.com/pages/landingblazers?No-extension-for-Nicolas-Batum=1&blockID=638648&feedID=5212

I think the Cs should go after him if they can't land Green. Batum is an excellent defender and very able scorer who can shoot and take it to the hole. He can run the floor very well and has that length needed to stop all the 3s in the league.

Thoughts?

C's would be stupid not to inquire/make an offer.....but wouldn't Portland just match any reasonable offers?

Portland has some decisions to make. They have Camby, Felton and Oden who all become free agents. G. Wallace has a player option and they are talking about an extension. With Aldridge seen as a pf, that leaves Wallace as sf, keeping Batum on the bench. And how much will you pay a talented bench player?

I don't watch many Blazer games so I don't know.

I have watched a few Blazers games and they would be morons if they did not resign Batum.  This kid can be a beast.  His perminute numbers are allstar calibar.  He can do it all.  Shoots well from beyond the arc, rebounds, plays D, blocks shots.  He can play SF, or SG.  He would be a perfect player to sign and build around.  He would not cost the max but could perform like a max player.  He's not as good a shooter as Ray but at 40% for 3's that's pretty [dang] good.  In 24 minutes he's avg 11pts, 4bds, 1ast, .6stl, .8blk, 1.3 -3pt 84.4%FT and 43.1%FG, His stats at 36min are 16.5pts, 6bds, 1.5 ast, 1stl, 1.2blk 1.9-3pt.  This is on a team with Wes Matthews, Gerald Wallace, Aldridge, Jamal Crawford, and Felton.  Shots are hard to come by but Batum produces.  He would be a sneaky pickup.  He's only 23yrs old too.  If the C's could sign him and a max player they could be set.  If it came down to Batum and Green I'd rather have Batum.  I think with a starting role he could be a star.

Batum is a good player, but if you look at his career shooting percentages, eg%, and ts%, he is only slightly above average. Not sure if he could be a legitimate starter on a contender.

Batum in a lot of ways reminds me of a young Tayshaun Prince. And I've wanted Prince for several seasons now (not so much the way he's playing this year), so to get a younger version of him would be great.

However, I think it more likely that we resign Jeff Green.

Batum is a above-average role player who is wonderful for a team when on a rookie contract.  As soon as he signs an extension he will be overpaid (like almost all NBA players) and will look far less attractive on any roster.

This kid will get a ton of attention when the season is over.  Seems like he's been in the league for 10 years but one of the most important aspects of all this is that he is still only 24 years old!

I can't see portland not matching any offer he gets.  You don't let an asset like batum walk and get nothing out of it.

He's worth about $5-7 million but will get $8-9 million.

Book it.

Yeah, definitely worth making a reasonable attempt at Nic Batum.

I say: get him! And make a cool French connection happen in Beantown! Him and Pietrus together. Good deal.
