Nice thoughts... but do you honestly think you can watch the big three grow older and older, keep loosing and getting beat up by younger, more athletic teams for the rest of the season? In my humble opinion, I don't think even they themselves want to witness that.
Well...I don't know.They still have pride...Celtics pride.
Do u think other player (Superman or Josh Smith) will want to play in a ball club that honor his vets and has pride? I guess they do. Playing for a club that honors you and fans that know there is more than a championship makes this club more attractive...
Fans need to realise that most of the "Honor our vets" is pure illusion. Pierce is a Celtics, he should be traded only if he's OK with it. But KG and Ray are just players, even if they contributed a lot since 2007.
Players do not care anymore about franchise history and stuff. They want 1) money and 2) media attention (to make more money) and 3) rings (in that order).
Howard is gonna leave Orlando (if they don't win the Finals 2012), although the Magic fans love him. James left Cleveland, although he had a competitive team and was a homegrown in Ohio.
Wake up ppl! Beoing a contending team sooner rather than later is far more important than being a team that "honors its vets". Players see all this as business, GMs should as well. It's all about winning because winning = merchandising, TV ratings, ticket prices, money, money, money.
It may be sad, but it's the cold reality of today's NBA. Unless you want to go for 15 years of mediocrity again, you should hope that DA is able to find deals for the big 3 bringing back some young players and picks for the rebuilding process to start right now rather than next year (and who wants to watch an old great team behind its prime? I'd rather watch the Wizards, at least they have some hope for the coming years).
