I thought the reason that we didn't get David West was because we needed a S&T and NO could't "flip" JO to anyone.  Is the suggestion that DA is a bad GM because he wanted to trade JO for David West or because he couldn't close the deal and let DW get away to Indiana?

I have heard both criticisms and I don't get either.

I have also heard that not getting David West shows that no free agents want to come to Boston and I don't get that either.

And the drafting record?  Drafting is just a high-stakes crap shoot at best.  I would rather be lucky than good or bad (just ask Portland) and DA has done pretty well considering.  I don't think it is realistic to expect better than a 50% success rate especially with later picks like we have had.

What's the last thing he's done where he should get any credit?

Trading Glen Davis and Von Wafer for Brandon Bass.

I have contested, will contest, and will continue to contest that Ainge should've gotten rid of Baby at least 2 seasons ago.

I made a post after the 09 playoffs saying we should sell on Davis while his value was high, because he had a limited ceiling and happened to have a lucky/freak playoff series despite sucking that entire regular season (and the season before that, and the season before that..). Plus he was and still is immature and has a bad attitude.

So, I can't give Ainge any credit for finally doing what he should have done years ago.

I doubt Ainge could've gotten much more than he got for Davis, ultimately, though.  Whoever he might have gotten for him two seasons ago would not have made a major difference in the team's fortunes, either.

Signing Rajon Rondo to one of the most reasonable contract extensions for an impact player in the NBA.

Considering Garnett's shaky start, in retrospect his interest in David West on a short, reasonable contract shows he's still got some chops and understands his team well. Just wish he could hit a double or even a single in the draft....

For what it's worth, David West is having a shakier start to the season than Kevin Garnett.

Fair enough, but I was thinking a little more about the season as a whole / current roster window.
