Block are a big part of post defense.  But he still struggles with his positional D and so does Bass.   Big Baby was able to play using his mass to push defenders from out of the low post.  Both of these guys struggle a bit in that they oft give up too sweet of position to the opponent.   Perk was a very good position defender.

Still, it"s encouraging at this point and who knew the kid had a jumper.  He plays hard and is making the most of this opportunity.  I know I am rooting for the kid.

yeah, blocks are like steals in that they can be an overrated stat

that said, we've needed someone that can make a guy think twice about shooting in the paint and I like him in that role

another thought would be to place the steamer in the proper context for the celtics. as a bench player on this team this is a great news. anytime you have a back up center who block shots and shoot a little from the outside it is a plus. also, it seems after only a short while that the steamer is also an intelligent player.

all good stuff.

yes, he is not overly athletic and under the basket people do push him around. but at 26 and with a good coach, he might learn to compensate even for those flaws. he has trouble with athletic centers on other teams, but then, most centers do so that is not unexpected.

as a backup that cost the team nothing to acquire, he is a great find. if he keeps this up he will be a good reserve for years to com and help be part of a good bench for the team.

blocks are generally good. his shooting looks ok so far. the steamer is rolling!
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

It's too bad that blocked shots weren't officially tracked when Bill Russell was playing or else we could better compare him vs. Stiemsma.

i love this pick up ! he knows what he can do and he does exactly that. if he's consistent i think he's a bigger steal than bass even though bass is better, steimsma was a shot in the dark and is looking like a starter to me
