What Roy said. Basically, I think the only way Pierce gets Amnestied is if he either requests it, because he wants to finish off his career on a winner, and the C's are rebuilding, or, more likely, he retires, and we amnesty his contract.

If he files for retirement with the league, yeah, he forfeits the rest of his contract. However, what many players do is either workout a buyout, or just announce retirement, but don't file the papers until their contract is up.I think chances are, Pierce would work out a buyout with the C's, and they would then Amnesty that. I believe that is what they did with Bakers contract on the original Amnesty clause.
