Impossible no, highly improbable yes. I think we can take any team in the East except for the Heat. I'm not one of those people who is going to act like he saw a close series between us and the Heat. We were cooked the moment Wade decided he wasn't playing around with Ray anymore. Game 3 was all heart and pride, something that I'm not sure they could duplicate another three games healthy Rondo or not. Sorry, if you feel I'm being negative or what ever, but it's how I honestly feel.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion and it's all good.

Here's what I think though: As everyone's been saying, we were playing 5 on 4 on offense but not because of Rondo. We basically played the series with the big 4 with Jermaine O'Neal and Jeff Green rotating in and out. Jermaine was playing one of his first games of the season and Jeff Green was lost. It would've been closer but everything that could have went wrong, did.

We have a similar amount of depth and setup this time as we did last year, except this time the players aren't as fragile.

The games in which we beat Miami we had either shaq or perk. Both guys who made you think twice about going to the basket. That is no longer the case.

True. But our offensive struggles definitely did not help either and this year's much more healthy squad would allow for much more continuity on offense.

Would you do agree that we were playing 5 on 4 basketball because JO and Jeff Green were just non-factors?

Wow I love Celtics optimism! I wish I was that optimistic. Personally I think we don't stand a chance to win nr. 18! But I sure hope I'm wrong and you guys are right! Here's to Celtics optimism and banner nr. 18. Cheers!

Tyson Chandler put New York over us IMO.  Our post is just so weak.

Even that addition cant solve the Knicks problem of "Knicks basketball: Where defense doesn't happen"

He can't fix Amare and Carmelo's flaws. However they definitely improved with him

I'm so afraid of NY now, they lost a great pg in Billups so I think Ray Ray and Rondo will end up killing them in those 2 positions, KG got Amar'e

Tyson improves their rebounds, ok great, but it doesnt put them over the top

Toney Douglas at the point is gonna be tough for them.

They have Mike Bibby, and are looking at Baron Davis. No stars, but better than TD.
Doc's gonna tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

Yeah iknow, my username is Kendrick Perkins and my ranking is Jeff Green. Ironic huh?

good points one and all. one thing not discussed in the celtic miami matchups this year will be the coaching. miami has some weak spots that the celtics match up well, pg is one of them.

if doc can help the team exploit these weak points, it might make a difference in a close series.

but honestly, right now the heat at the team to beat in the east...and i am hopeful the celtics can do it. :)

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I think Bass is pretty roughed.  He could make you think about taking it to the rack if he wanted.  All it takes is one hard  foul early in the game when someone goes to the hole.  But really people do not really do thugish things like this that much anymore.   I do not see any one on our team pulling a Kevin McHale and clothes-lining LeBron.

First off, obviously another year means another year older, but even last year, they were right there with the Heat they just really fell off after Rondo's injury. This year however, we are better than last. DA has built a stronger bench, (Still a little slim at SG but other than that it's solid). We will have more time to integrate Jeff green who will only get better from last year, we will have players like Bass who can legitimately score off the bench, Dooling who is a very solid backup to Rondo, and who knows about Wilcox and JJJ? Maybe one of them surprises us.

All I'm saying is that there is a chance for 18. Nobody expected the Mavs to win it all last year and look what happened. Maybe Lebron breaks his leg. Who knows. I think we can beat the Bulls and if we can somehow win a series against the Heat then we can make it to the Finals.

What I do know is the Pierce, Garnett, and Allen will give us everything they have, because they are class acts and have nothing to lose.

I read these boards all the time and I ocassionally post.

It is amazing to me that people who watch the Celtics religiously can claim that this team has no shot to win a championship.

"But they lost in the second round!!" they'll say.  To which I reply:  they lost to the eventual conference champions in the second round.  Not only that, but if wasn't for a busted elbow and two fade-away hail mary three pointers by a career 30% 3-pt shooter, things very well may have turned out differently.

Now let's look at what the problems were with last year's team:

- They had very little depth, if any
- They had little athleticism, outside of Rondo
- They had too few shooters
- They were average to below average offensively
- Their 4th quarter scoring was terrible

Nothing hurt them more than their lack of offense, particularly their disastrous 4th quarter offense (again, if I remember correctly, they were beating the Heat late in the 4th quarter in two of their losses).

So where have they gone this offseason?

- They added better athletes: Dooling, Wilcox, Bass, JJJ
- They significantly improved depth (see above)
- They beefed up the 4, which should allow Jeff Green to play the 3, where he is a more dynamic offensive threat
- They improved, though not by much, their bench offense

At the very worst you could say they side-graded in some of these moves.  In no way is this a worse team than last year.  At best, you could say they have addressed as many needs as they possibly could given the flexibility they had.  It would have been a dream to get David West (bye bye offensive woes) but we'll have to settle with a season of Jermain Oneal, who at least is a legitimate center and played great defense at the 5 in the playoffs when healthy.

In summary - this team has improved over last years team, which was competitive for a championship and they will be competitive again.

I'm still sorta hoping for a well timed Heat injury or something though. A little averaging out type help would be nice
