They already have Rubio and Ridnour on long term contracts, so why not add Barea, as well?  $4.75 million per year for a third-string point guard sounds right.

My guess is Ridnour will be shopped at some point but no rush.  Rubio wasn't exactly lighting it up in Europe last year so he may need time to adjust.

It was known already in June, that the Timberwolves wanted another point guard to be the starter to take the pressure off Rubio, and that it wasnt going to be Ridnour.

JJ Barea might not be the perfect solution, but not the worst either.

Khan looks at point guards like baseball teams look at starting pitching, you can never have enough!  ;D

Does Kahn want to sign every single FA PG to a 4 year, 20 million dollar contract? Sessions, Ridnour, Barea, who's next?

If you have a PG prospect you're going to develop (ie play 24+ minutes a game minimum) why bother to pay TWO veteran PGs the going rate?

It makes no sense, I guess he'll look to trade Ridnour this year?

Yeah, he'll have to.

And the only thing about the Barea acquisition that makes sense to me is that he speaks Spanish.  If the Twolves are looking for a mentor to start at point guard, a guy who speaks Spanish and who is a good teammate like Barea makes sense.

And PFs.

Shooting guards, natural small forwards, and above-average centers, not so much.

What kind of mentoring can Barea do? He's not a prototypical pass-first PG.

If Kahn wants to help out Rubio, he should get Fernandez on the cheap from Dallas.

I was just thinking that.  It would help in the short term, although it's likely that Rudy would bolt back to Spain after one year.  Playing with Rubio is great and all, but Minnesota is cold, mismanaged, and just a really bad team.

Obligatory comic Khan pic!!!!

This GM is a joke. The list of head-scratching, non-sensical, fiscally irresponsible, outright stupid moves that David Kahn has made is getting to the point where one can't remember them all anymore. There's just too many.

Kahn took a team that over the two years before he got there won a combined 46 games. In the two years under his guidance they have won 32 games. And quite honestly, is there any doubt with the collection of talent he has assembled that they will probably struggle to win 14 out of the 66 games they play this year? That means he could have trouble winning 46 games in three seasons when his predecessor was fired for losing 46 games in 2 seasons.

too bad for barea  -i mean good money, but it was fun watching him play - won't see him again in a meaningful game for probably a long long time.
