I don't agree with it but I understand why I think.

They just went through this long drawn out strike/lock out to at very least give the illusion of competitive balance.  Then right after it is ratified one of the top players in the NBA goes to the NBA's flag ship franchise.  I don't think it really had much to do with who got what as much as it did with the impression it gave right after the new deal was signed.

This trade may still go through and I believe would have gone through without a hitch if the timing were different.

The problem now is it is turning into a PR disaster and yet another embarrassment to the NBA.

This is sad.  Truly.  Now there's absolutely no credibility to the NBA and how the games go.  David Stern absolutely needs to go and the front office needs to be renovated.

By not saying CP can go to LA is essentially picking which teams will draft first.  You'll get a lot more p---ed people here if this was a trade to Boston and the NBA vetoed it because it "wasn't in the best interest" of the league.

Sad.

No.

On the other hand, I'd agree with a regular owner of the Hornets vetoing the deal. It was beyond horrible for the Hornets.

But if the league owns the Hornets, then they ought to give full autonomy to their front-office.

They should have let the deal go on and immediately fire Demps for gross incompetence and sue him because his reckless management damaged the value of their propriety.

i didn't think it was a fair trade. LA gets to save money, keep valuable trading pieces and gets a superstar; NOH gets crappy long-term contracts, semi-stars and no centerpiece to build around; Rockets get Gasol (good for them).

i normally wouldn't agree with Stern on this, but since the Hornets are a league-owned team...doesn't that mean that the league owners should have a say in their decisions?

from a basketball perspective, i think LA would've gotten worse actually. I think Odom and Gasol are such a huge part of what makes LA so good (which is being bigger than everyone else and having a bunch of skilled bigs). So if they take away their star center and their star bench player, while adding a ball-handler/playmaker which Kobe already does most of the time... i don't see how it would be a net benefit. Of course, if it's the next step to getting Dwight, then fine. It's brilliant.
