Sorry but Stockton and Nash can score the ball; their offensive prowess is way out of Rondo's league.

Just for a little perspective, though, when Stockton was as old as Rondo was last year he was averaging 8/8 as a backup. Nash averaged 8/6 as a starter but was a part time starter the following year. Stockton made his first all-star game at about the age Rondo will be during the 12-13 season, Nash the year after that.

Man, I would really hate to trade Rondo only to find out that he's starting to develop a shot. He doesn't even have to be able to hit it every time for me to want to keep him - he just needs to be able to keep defenses honest.

If he's actually an average shooter at this point (unlikely, but if), that changes the need for a deal in my book.

That article regarding Rondo's work with Mark Price is from 2009.  Since then, his shot hasn't improved all that much (if at all) and his free throw shooting has gotten worse.

Fair point, serves me right for being lazy and only reading the excerpt.

How many of these ball dominating, "chucker" PG's have ever won NBA titles throughout NBA history?

How many have been won pass first PG's?

Just because there seem to be more of the shoot first variety of PG doesn't necessarily mean they are the best to have if you want to win NBA titles.

I can see why a Derrick Rose is more appealing but I don't believe he's the be all, end all formulate for success.  What I'm saying is that this is the impression I get as the league is moving away from the pass first point guards.  I mean you've the short All-World Chris Paul but, typically, a taller and bigger point guard who's a dominate offensive threat is ideal. However, I don't want my starting point guard to be the leading scorer.  If that's the case, something has changed in the makeup of your starting five players in regards to philosophy.  Even if he's the most talented player on your roster, I prefer for him to assume the role of the play-maker.  From this, he's a more dangerous player in that mindset.  For example, I would prefer LeBron James in this role with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as the main scorers as oppose to James being the top option.  Especially, in the fourth quarter of games.

And a Rose or a Deron Williams are more marketable for the NBA than a Rondo.  Predictably, a lot of young fans enjoy to see individual players who are a part of a high scoring games.  Nothing is wrong with this.  I just don't like to see that player be your point guard unless the team has no choice for him to be.  Conversely, Rose has a choice because he plays with enough talented teammates to defer his offense more often than not to them.
