I don't know why every one is fixated on CP3, when next year you wont have him.
I like Howard better for the this year and the future. Think about trying to go to the hoop against Howard and KG. I think Lebron would have a hard time and you take away the lane, Miami has no shot.

With the CP3 trade you get him for a year and he's in NY, end of story. Howard you bring in, and yes he wants to play in LA, but you get him caught up in a championship run, Celtic pryde. maybe even bring Aleen and KG in for one more run next year, and he gets the easiest baskets of his career with Rondo tossing him the ball with in 3 feet of the hoop, look at how many dunks Shaq had last year and he couldn't jump!!

CP3 is a nice player, but he would need to learn a whole new system, were Howard just would need to learn the D at first, then a couple plays a week. CP3 would have to know it all, and the team would struggle for the first half the season, and that would leave a bad taste in his mouth for Boston.
To get Howard you convince Orlando to rebuild, Danny can do it. Its the one trade I would do with Green in it. So you could do this possibly.

J Green, Big Baby, JO, Clippers pick, and or Avery Bradly and maybe an other Rookie.

Not sure how rookie and draft pick values work out if it this is possible.

You get Howard every one will want to sign for less money to play with this team.

I know right? We'd still have no bigs, we'd lose our backup to Pierce and we'd lose draft picks for a one year rental of Chris Paul. That's the problem.

We have to win a championship with Chris Paul or I'm putting my money on him leaving and let me remind you again, we have no bigs. Chris Paul has also said that he doesn't want to play for Boston and perhaps that would affect his on court performance. Would you take Chris Paul at less than 100% or Rondo who will give you 150%?

Its not like we're *stuck* with Rondo and Paul Pierce next year. We can still trade him next year. We'd have Paul Pierce only if we got Chris Paul and we'd be robbed draft picks. I don't see a declining Paul Pierce attracting major talent.

The reason we don't do this is because, with all due respect, Orlando would laugh if this was the offer.

They're being offered guys like Brook Lopez and Andrew Bynum.  Jeff Green simply isn't good enough to be a centerpiece.

I don't think Orlando trades Howard.  And as Roy says, certainly not for that package.

Danny is going after CP3 because it's plausible.

Hopefully if we get him, it can potentially mean Dwight in 2012.

I don't think I'd trade my stuffed animal for this package.

It all depends on what Orlando wants to do. Rebuilding teams are notorious for making really lame deals. The deal with KG and Paul Gasaols deal weren't them best deal for the other team by far.

I think people forget Green was a solid player for Oklahoma. No you can't build around him. But you can put a piece next to him or trade for an other piece. Big Baby can be solid at times, Jo is just for contract reasons, and a draft pick and a rookie with potential is more than they have been offered by LA. Bynum could be out of the league in 3 years. Guy that big with bad knees, only  a matter of time.

And at least if Howard left, you still have Rondo, Peirce. With the CP3 trade you just have Peirce, and we've been down that road before, only at least then he was young.

  • Rondo = Good
we have nothing to offer orlando for dwight howard.

as valuable as chris paul is, dwight howard is worth far more.

I don't see it. Maybe if Orlando would take Rondo, Ray, Green, Picks for Howard and Turkoglu and any other deadweight contracts, which I could only see happening if no other team would offer to trade for Orlando without a guaranteed extension as part of the deal, which is obviously not the case because LAL would top that offer with no guarantee (and they are one of two locations that would be virtually guaranteed to keep Howard). Then the C's go out and add Jason Richardson with MLE and pick up Baron Davis after he's amnestied.

Baron/Bradley
Richardson/Delonte
Pierce/Turkoglu
KG/Juan Johnson
Howard/JO

It could be one of the best defensive teams ever, and no slouch offensively if we get Motivated Baron. Only problem is after this season, Howard would still probably bolt for FA and the C's would have no cap room and just Richardson, Turkoglu, Pierce under contract.

I was just thinking this.

The latest I heard for CP3 was Rondo AND Green, which I think is wayyyyy too much with no guarantee of an extension. We would be far too thin and Green is a very valuable backup 3 (and to a lesser extent the 2 and 4) to this team.

But, why can't we go after Dwight instead?

Rondo (All-Star), Green (E&T), JaJuan Johnson (potential?) JO (expiring contract), draft pick(s), cash, etc.

Then we worry about the PG position. Resign West and Arroyo, they can share time there, and if we still have Bradley after the trade, he can get minutes too.

Look for a cheap vet that can potentially steal minutes from those guys, someone like TJ Ford.

Resign BBD (ugh I know), Murphy and Wafer.

Use whatever MLE we are entitled to on a backup wing, maybe JRich or Grant Hill.

West/Ford/Arroyo/(Bradley or vet min)
Allen/Wafer/Moore
Pierce/Hill/(vet min)
Garnett/Davis/(vet min)
Howard/Murphy

Would we have a reason to believe Howard would stay, even after winning a title? Probably not. But still, that team HAS to be favored to win the title this season by a large margin, and if he leaves, Ainge has like $40 million in cap space to play with after passing the Larry O'Brien trophy around the TD Garden in June.

Now, would Otis Smith get crazy enough to take that package from us????
