Personally, I would make the trade with or without an extension.

But, I am probably an extreme minority.

  • You say when......
What about the other part ..that with the shortened season, there is no time for cp3 to work with the team...you can just add a rebounder, you see, he can fit in anytime, because it is EXTRA play, extra stuff, needed and helpful...but a NEW PG..can funk the whole team.chemistry.the pg is the floor general..how will they know his tendencies, his streengths, his weakness'....i don't think cp3 is worth the trade at all...not rondo...but in a short-no practice season like this..no way....doc hardly practiced last year at all anyway ( don't get me going on docs weaknesses ) Now they will play 2-3 games in a row.... ( doc had a can't miss team right off with kg -pp, ray and Leon cleaning up..!) PJ also..! but then he couldn't stitch together anything, when they should have taken it....

This is so going the wrong way..don't forget the only ones running with rondo were wafer or green...so now you are going to have cp3 running alone..look into the lower ranks, other teams bench for a rebounder / runner..young, athletic.....trade bbd...he is going to watch way too much $$$, and he really adds little here.

I like Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo but to me it might come down to a matter of fit.  Paul is a guy who has had the ball in his hands a whole lot during his career and has been successful on teams that needed him to play that way.  I don't know that he is absolutely a better fit for this particular team then Rajon Rondo is even considering Rondo's inability to consistently hit from the perimeter.

I don't believe this team would thrive as it has these past few season if anyone came in here and needed to have the ball in his hands a lot(like Chris Paul) because this team has thrived on superior ball movement(and defense).  Paul Pierce adjusted from being a guy who for most of his career stopped ball movement into a guy who has thrived upon the open shots he has gotten due to that ball movement. I'm far from convinced that Chris Paul, especially in a situation without a long term extension would come to Boston at this stage of his career and be willing to change his game to fit in with an older team on the downside of it's dominant stretch.

Chris Paul in an one and done situation to me doesn't help Boston's already pretty slim(IMO) title hopes this season.  If that's the case then what is the point of making the deal without an extension in place?

Well, I hope Rondo is holding up through all of this....having his name tossed out there and everything like that.

IMO, I think the fact that NOH was expecting MORE for Rondo than what Boston was trading for was rather disrespectful.

Rondo and CP3's skill level is rather negligible. I mean, if you want offense, CP3 impresses, but only slightly better than Rajon.

Plus, healthwise I'd rather go with Rondo. CP3's knees concern me, as was discussed previously in the thread.

Personally, I would make the trade with or without an extension.

But, I am probably an extreme minority.

I am with you in that 'extreme' minority and here is why:

As a GM in any sport, any move you make comes with risk. I think this is a move Danny should make with or without the extension and here is the thought behind this.....

We trade for Chris Paul and immediately become better offensively, something this team struggled with mightily last year. Once Paul is here, Danny, Doc, The Big 3, etc. have a year to convince him into signing the extension along with the fact that Paul comes to an organization that players, once here, grow to love. You hear nothing but positive things from players that have played for the Celtics organization and I would think that Paul could get wrapped up in the history and prestige that comes with the organization after being a part of it.

There is also the Howard situation. You can't tell me players don't talk about this kind of stuff and I know for a fact they do (ala Miami's Big 3) so with Paul now in Boston there is not only The Big 3, Doc and Danny convincing Howard to come but also Paul and all that put together has to be enticing to Howard.

You also have a sign and trade possibility with Paul (if I'm not mistaken?) if nothing goes right this year and he doesn't sign an extension with Celtics. It would be our version of Cleveland situation when they lost LeBron. We could at least get something for him so it isn't like we are giving Rondo away for a one year rental. However, I would argue the risk of a one year rental of Paul is worth the possible reward of an extension and the possibility of him being the piece to put us over the top in attracting Howard.

You never know, they might just win a ring this year with Paul.....I would trade Rondo for another title hands down.
