All I ask for is the rank and file to have a chance to vote for this proposal.

I agree that this is a horrible deal for the players as it cedes control to the owners/management on a lot of the so called "B-List issues" like a player can be sent down to the "D-League" in the 1st five years of his contract. Also there appear to be significant takeaaways in areas like pensions. Going over the salary cap is checked by luxery tax and a takeaway from the players in the form of an escrow tax. The rookie contracts are cut by 12%. The midlevel exception is cut for teams over the salary cap. Stern uses the threat of the next offer will be worse if the players reject this offer - which will certainly lead to a lost season.

With all the problems, I read through this website: http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm
that this could still pass if it were to go to a vote by the rank and file members. To me, it seems like the players get to vote on a salary cut, a benefit cut, and the right to be demoted to the D-league at a true minimum working wage in the 1st 5 years of your career or simply not working and having to negotiate the right to work (De-Certification Vote - transfering overseas). It sucks but I think this contract could be ratified by the rank and file against the wishes of player agents, player reps, and the "superstars committee"
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Just to be clear, the players would not be voting right now on the D-league stuff.  That is not in the current proposal, it still needs to be negotiated, if the players accept the "A-list" items the owners presented.

I'm sick of coming back from nearly 6 hours of 4on4 basketball (I rocked the court though, so that was good) and finding the forum overtaken by some kind of spam bot. Seriously, I had to delete 11 topics. Or rather, we merge them into one big annoying deleted thread first because mods can still see the topics they deleted, and we don't want to see that list on the right full of deleted spam-links.

Anyway, everyone at the court was talking about the lockout, and how it's something that we can't go without.

Sigh.

I want to watch basketball :( :( :( :'(

We can't even get much lockout talk at all on the sports radio stations either...this is literally the only place I can go to engage in NBA talk.

Both Boston radio stations have expressed how they don't care if the NBA comes back this year, some hosts even preferring that there is no season...whether they know it or not, there are actual passionate basketball fans and we are suffering!

I think your average basketball die-hard is pretty far removed from both EEI and The Sports Hub's target demo's.

I am not sure that is true.

As for the lockout, I am SOOOO happy they are not trying to talk about it on the radio.  Sports talk radio guys have trouble understanding very simple concepts, so they would be completely lost on something like this.
I also think the guys at the SportsHub could care less if the Celtics come back as they own the rights to the bruins and Patriots.

Yup.  And none of the personalities are C's guys in general.  The one show still on the air which has any C's connection is the Big show.  And they dumb everything down so far, it would be painful to hear them discuss this.

No NBA this year guys.  :(

Next season could start late / be in jeopardy, too.

I understand that the owners are by no means innocent in all of this, but this makes me very angry at the players.  How can they not understand that THE OFFERS ARE NOT GOING TO GET BETTER?

The further they delay this, the more money they are going to lose, and the worse the eventual deal will be.  Many of the players that were in the NBA prior to the lockout will have their careers severely shortened or completely ruined because of the decisions they're making right now.

Just complete, brazen, egotistical idiocy.

Well, I'm done with the NBA for quite some time. Good luck getting a dime from me in the next decade.

I love how professional these NBA players are ... You've got Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher dressed to the dime trying to derive an explanation as to why the players won't accept the deal being offered ... and Chauncy Billups and Russell Westbrook are both in hoodies ... Keep it classy NBA ... (puke)
