Okay, I was just thinking about this and there's not too much celts can do about this now, but just imagine.

I think we should have gone after Iguodala.  We could have included some picks like the clippers one. He would have been a perfect match with rondo in the backcourt - both are defensive minded, and can DEFINITELY run.  Yeah iggy wouldn't have as much range, but we'd still have the big 3 too...Iggy's make a much better wing backup in our system than jeff.  If we wanted to stay defensive minded, I'd go after Josh smith too (using ray now that we have iggy)...then we could definitely sign D12.

Dwight would have a supporting case of Rondo, Iggy, and Josh Smith.  Iggy and Pierce would provide enough range for Dwight to operate.  We get younger for sure - and with Rondo operating with slashers like iggy and josh, that'd be a tandem on offense.  We don't need superstars surrounding rondo, just people he can find open who are moving around a lot.  They slashers could run off picks that dwight sets EASILY.

Anyway, giant pipe dream.  I was just fantasizing obviously.  You're totally welcome to join me lol.

If we don't trade Nate/Perkins to OKC, how would we have the clippers pick to trade for Iggy?

The Clipper pick came with Green.  How could the Celtics trade it with Perk and Nate for AI2?

And why does Philly make this trade?  AI2 is worth a lot more the Green in terms of trade value.

well, they're looking for a center - they were considering Kaman for Iggy right? I honestly don't think Perk is that different from Kaman.  Perk's offense is obviously much worse, but he's got better defense.  Match that well with Elton Brand.

OK I didn't realize that the pick came with Green.  We'd have some logistical issues.  Maybe we add big baby or delonte to that too.

Well, first of all, I don't know if they were actually considering Kaman for Iggy.  If that was being discussed, I strongly believe they were asking for significantly more to sweeten the pie.

The other issue is at the trade deadline Perkins had just come off surgery, was dealing with another injury, and most importantly was going to be an unrestricted free agent this summer...and Philly, unlike OKC did not have the free cap space to sign Perk before he hit the open market.

So, Philly would basically have been looking at a 3 month rental of Perkins in exchange for their best player, and then the right to pay fair market value for a center who was bound to be overpaid in a weak free agent year.

Given the circumstances, it was an absolute steal for the C's to get Green, Krstic, and that Clippers pick in return for Perkins, and that was only because OKC was desperate for a player with Perk's skillset, and had the ability to sign him immediately, so they blew Danny away with a "value" offer.

If the C's had traded him anywhere else, the haul would have been significantly smaller for Perk, which really made that a truly unique situation.

The other issue, AI2 contract is not as flexible friendly for the Celtics.

The fact that the Celtics only need to give Green a one year contract to control him next season is a plus for him in the deal.  They want that flexibility the following season when KG and Ray both come off the book.

Kaman is a better center than Perkins, and will always be valued higher due to having some sort of offensive game.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

Wow.  Trading our starting center, on the verge of the playoffs, in which we are the leading contender, for a weak center and a journeyman scorer 'blew Danny away with a value offer'?

I get your point that Perkins may not have had much trade value, though I wonder how true that really is.  That doesn't mean you trade a guy you badly need just because someone offers you a stick of chewing gum and a pack of cigarettes.  The best you can say for Danny is that he had a manic episode.  More likely, he and Wyc wanted to send players around the league a very, very hard message, which I think they succeeded in doing, going by Kevin Love's surrender talk today...

A good prospect still on his rookie contract with another 1+ year(s) to run on his deal.

Not an expiring deal. Not a player asking for a large contract extension (Jeff Green).
