*Breaking News* on ESPN is saying that Logan Mankins has signed a 6 year contract.  I have not seen the terms but this is VERY good news IMO.

It'll be interesting to see the $$$ involved in the deal but this is a HUGE resigning by the Pats.  One of the core guys.

I think this was only a matter of time.  I don't think he would have signed the franchise tender and come in so quietly had they not been close on a longterm deal.

My guess is this will dramatically lower his cap hit.

Good news.  At this point, I'm not sure how much it's going to help them with the cap at this point.  Sure, it'll free up more space, but I'm not sure if there's really a late game free agent move to make at this stage in the game (maybe it could help with a trade, though).

Also nice to get this resolved at the line intact going into the season.  The line was strong last year.  Adding Solder to the mix should make it even better.

This is great for the Pats.
I also read that Haynesworth and Ochocinco restructured their contracts.  Both are MUCH cheaper than I thought (Ocho: $1M this year, Haynesworh: $1.5M this year)
Celtics fan for life.

Given the amount of trades and the amount of cost cutting being done at the pats training camp, this had to be something the Pats front office had been planning for a while. I'm glad it got done. Mankins might be arguably the best OL in the league and having him long term to be their to protect an aging Brady makes me feel good about the future of the Pats.

Great signing and great for Brady.

Hopefully Belichick can get Johnson to change his name back.  The announcers sound like blithering fools and Johnson looks like a moron every time they mention him.

Looks like the numbers are in on the Mankins contract.

From PFT:

Quote
The numbers are in on Logan Mankins‘ six-year contract with the Patriots, and the really eye-opening number is the signing bonus: $20 million.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that the deal will pay Mankins a $1.5 million base salary this year, which means Mankins will make $21.5 million — or more than twice as much as he would have made if he played this season on the one-year franchise tender, which would have paid him a little more than $10 million. However, even though Mankins will receive twice as much money as he would have on the franchise tag, he’ll cost only half as much against the Patriots’ salary cap because the $20 million signing bonus is prorated over the six-year deal.

In future seasons, Mankins will have a base salary of $3 million in 2012, $6 million in 2013, $6.5 million in 2014 and $7 million each in 2015 and 2016.

Mankins can also earn a workout bonus of $250,000 a year, which would bring the total value of the six-year deal to $52.25 million. The deal makes Mankins the highest paid guard or center in football.
