With only 20 minutes to go in Level 9, Paul Pierce made his exit from the WSOP main event.

The NBA All-Star had been the attention of all at the secondary feature table, even players like Dennis Phillips who asked him for an autograph during play. Pierce played a patient game, but seemed to get active after dinner and would ultimately find himself in a rough spot with 2-2 all-in preflop against the J-J of Allan Vrooman. The board ran clean for Vroonman (K-8-5-4-K) and Pierce stood up from his chair, grabbed his backpack and walked out the door with spectators and players giving him a round of applause as they announced his departure.

Pierce spent a total of 17 hours and 40 minutes in action and outlasted more than half of the field of 2,031 that began on Day 2A.

To bad I would havel liked to seen him when they air it on ESPN.  Maybe there will still be some footage of it.

Yeah congrats to Paul on a great run.  Let's hope he has many more deep runs with the C's.

  • Yup
That would be such a fun thing to do once in my life.

The 1oK for a likely no return thrill ride might be a tough one to justify though.

Where's my $20M salary when I need it?  ;)
Yup

Have you ever tried playing in a smaller tournament?  I used to play in Atlantic City from time to time.  It's quite a bit of fun.

Just a couple at a sports bar with 30-35 players.

I won a couple of pretty good sized tournaments on line though!  (which was sort of fun)

All in with 2,2 is not a good play, but I can understand the move if it was just heads up and there was already a big pot pre-flop.

In that scenario, you want to make your opponent fold.

If there was more than one opposing player, then no, not a good move to go all in.

Yeah exactly, its a play you make to force someone to fold when you read them as not having a bigger pair. It's a risk, but if your read is right you're a slight favorite even if they do call.

Also a lot depends on chip stack at the start of the hand in a tournament setting.
