Someone posted this on the CelticsBlog Facebook page.  Thought I'd pose the question here.

Hey, I'm doing some research on the NBA. Can anyone tell me what are the best cheers/chants that Celtics fans do at the games? Feel free to put up videos too :)

I like the straightforward Let's Go Celtics, or Defense (when we actually need a stop, not incessantly!)
Yup

My favorite was the "Rondo's Better" every time Bibby touched the ball in that playoff series a few years ago.
When I'm in the gym...I like to grunt when  I get my swell on... That way everyone can see how jacked and tan I am.

the anti-Lebron chants

"over-rated!" first game during the regular season vs Miami
"New York Knicks...NY Knicks"...during game 6 of the 2010 playoffs

"Bird is God!" (Or a similar (non-offensive) Supreme Being-type moniker). Or "Kobe Sucks!" ... tough to beat that anywhere. ;)

At Zaza Pachulia: "U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!"

At Kobe: "NO MEANS NO! NO MEANS NO!"
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

My favorite is still counting to 10 every time Jermaine Oneal was at the free-throw line during the playoff series with Indiana.  Definitely one of the more original ones, which showed Boston fans as actually being intelligent, instead of the more crude "X Sucks" type chants, that IMO reek of pink hat Red Sox fans.

I'm pretty sure I was at the original Garden version of this chant back when Mourning was with the Hornets. It was the Chief's last game as a Celtic. Zo was taking for-absolute-ever to shoot the free throws, so the crowd started counting the seconds.  He never got it off on time!

I remember we had some pretty obnoxious ones at our high school games.  We used to do the premature end of the period countdowns when the visitors had the ball.  Of course, the guy would obliviously shoot it up with 4 seconds left and hit the shot in our faces!
Yup

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
Joel Anthony for MVP! Joel Anthony for MVP!

But that was in the Heat arena.
I like Marcus Smart

i guess my favorite one is "no means no" when kobe plays. but as a follower of euro bball, i wish the nba teams had the chants/songs the euro teams come out with for their teams.

One of my favorites, as well. Couldn't stand Bibby running his mouth during that series.

TP!

Yes, this is the best chant, HANDS DOWN, and for so many reasons!

-I hate the Lakers
-Started right here in Boston
-Reason how the chant was started (if you don't know, I seriously suggest you look it up-otherwise I am making a motion to have your Celtics fan membership revoked)
-It is used in numerous cities, in numerous sports (basically, everyone copied us)

Feel free to add your own reasons

yes. that pretty much goes on the entire game. there's literally tons of chants the fans have created and they pretty much go at it for the entire game. euro league game atmospheres (and home court advantage) cant be replicated in nba games imo. the closest i've felt that type of energy was game 6 vs the lakers a few years ago at the garden and even that couldnt touch some of the PAO games i've been to.
