What about a sign and trade for West and Okafor?  

West - 7 million next year (total 3 years 24 million)
Okafor - 11.5 million next year

for

O'Neal - 5.8 million
Green - 6 million next year (total 3 years, 21 million)
Davis - 4 million next year (3 years 13.5 million)

Or something like that.  Saves New Orleans a bunch of long term dollars (unless they just let West walk away for nothing) and gets them some quality players in the process.  I'm assuming JO would probably retire in that situation, but maybe not.

It would give the C's a pretty solid younger center and a not so long ago All Star PF coming off the bench.  I would consider taking Ariza off their hands as well, if the dollars could be worked out.

If they both leave, then NO will be far enough under the cap that they can sign BBD without having to sign and trade.  The only reason they'd sign and trade is if they badly wanted to ship someone out of their team... Ariza and Okafor are the only 2 that fit that description for me, but contracts won't match up in a S&T.  So, the answer is no unfortunately. 

Actually, if NOH had their hearts set on letting Landry go and acquiring Baby, I bet they'd sign and trade the 2 of them if we threw in NJ's 2nd rd pick we just got.  That would be a fantastic move for us since we'd get Landry and still have the full MLE to work with to get a center.

Why am I even discussing things like this with no CBA worked out...

No.  Even if for some crazy reason he would take the MLE, he certainly is not going to sign a 1 year deal and that is all the C's will be giving out this year.

I wouldn't bring in Okafor's contract unless I was getting CP3 in the deal also.

I don't think there's any way that Danny takes on a contract like Emeka Okafor's even if Chris Paul is attached to it . Between Chris Paul, PP and Okafor the c's would already be at about 47mil on the books for the 2012 season . Add in the Juan Johnson and salary holds for empty roster spots and the c's will be around 50 mil.

There have been talks that the new cba will set the 2012 salary cap at around 62 mil . That means the c's would only have around 12 mil under the cap, taking them out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes.

I love Chris Paul and would definitely trade Rondo,Green and Picks for him, but whats the point if you are going to have a roster built around Paul, Okafor and an aging PP,KG,Ray. They would be legit contenders for next season, but after that they would be a very old team with no ability to add major pieces and would not have any trade chips left to try and acquire another star to play with Paul into the future.

Danny has got to keep that free cap space to add a max free agent like Dwight. I would rather keep Rondo and all our trade chips(Green,2012 clippers,JJ,Bradley) and have the ability to add Dwight to that Roster than to have Paul and Okafor going into the future.

he's already been offered more than the MLE and moving a pretty old and fragile KG to center to make room for him is a big risk.

I think the destinations that make most are:

OKC - a great fit to their pieces in place and they will likely have more than MLE in cap space to offer him

Sac - Tons of cap space; Lot of young talent in place; Cousins can play center which would open up a need at PF; they could offer him a lot of money and they could use some kind of veteran presence

Indy - Lot of cap space; been reported to have strong interest (Woj); a hole at PF

Other options:

NJ - Some cap space to work with; been reported to have strong interest (Woj); West is originally from northern New Jersey.  I think Prokhorov has bigger plans with his cap space than to sign David West though.  This signing would just about take them out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes unless they are extremely fiscally prudent this offseason.

NOH - If Hornets lose him, they can kiss Chris Paul goodbye.  If they really want Chris Paul, they need to resign West.  His decline of a 3 yr, 26M extension tells me that he won't be coming back though.
