JaJuan = Young Camby?

I don't see him becoming as good as Camby.  If he was he would have been much more talked about.  I think realistically his ceiling would be a Theo Ratliff type of career.  But I see him being more like an Amir Johnson.  Athletic big guy on the skinny side but can play decent defense and finish at the rim.

The good news is that on this team he could fit in right away.  With all our scorers we just need a guy to finish plays, which some guys couldn't do (Baby, Krstic).

Learning from and playing against KG and J.O., guys who had similar body types as his age, will definitely be good for him.

Idk - the post is my only real area for concern with him.  He doesn't have a wide body.  And 6'10 - 220 isn't scrawny but he's definitely going to be pushed around by some of the stronger PF's in the league.

Maybe he'll hit the weights hard tho and add some bulk

Camby can't shoot? That's practically the only thing Camby can do now on offense. That, and the occasional wide open dunk.

I watch him play, and I can't help but seeing Donyell Marshall. Same size, same build, same shot, similar athletiscism and probably a similar role.

Keep in mind that Marshall was not always a late 30's role-player standing in the corner for Lebron. He moved a lot better when he was young.

In Marshall's final year at U-Conn, he averaged 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks per game.

Camby can shoot... His shot is ugly but for a center it's wet.

Camby was bigger and longer: allowed him to make more of an impact with similar skills and athleticism.  Take away a couple of inches and he’s not grabbing as many boards or blocking as many shots.  But I’m with those offering Taj Gibson as a more reasonable comparison.  Taj is a bit longer, and I think a bit more powerful finishing around the hoop, but I think the comparison is essentially sound.  If Johnson can match Gibson’s rookie season production for us, I’d be very pleased.

Johnson is not even close to the level Camby was when he came out.  Camby was one of the players in on the Wooden Award, the National College Player of the year.  Johnson played 3rd or 4th option on an overrated team in and overrated league.  Johnson did not dominate the Big Ten, in fact big men in the Big Ten like the kids from Wisconsin and Illini did a very good job against his defense.

Taj Gibson dominated the Pac-10 when he played and gave the eventual national champs, North Carolina, fits in the tourney.

Neither Gibson or Camby are good comparisons since both were ready the minute they were drafted to help an NBA team.

IF I was going to give a comparison I would say he is a poor man's Brandon Wright from UNC fame and New Jersey.  Same build, same offensive strengths, same issues guarding big men with size or who can shoot.

didn't he average like 20 ppg?  outside of e'twaun none of his teammates averaged in double digits.  aren't you underselling him just a bit?

johnson is a much more accomplished college player than brandon wright was and is about an inch and half taller.  to not only compare him to a brandon wright, but to say he's a poor man's brandon wright is a bit extreme.

Campy was an amazing defensive player at umass.  I honestly never thought he was that good of a prospect but after a few years he turned into quite the pro.
I am happy if Johnson can become a Eddie pickney sort of guy, strong bench minutes rebound,defend and run the floor.  If he turns into more than ez Ed all bonus baby!
