First off, funny how many people love to boo Stern. Why is that?

Second they were just talking about how bad the Clippers trade looks now for the Cilps, and how the Clips would look with Kyrie, Eric Gordon, Al Fariq, Blake Earthquake, Deandre Jordan.

Again say what you want, but first and foremost this is a for profit business and they claim that most of the teams are losing money.

The Clips got their superstar for at least the next few years, and the Cavs last year would have been out in the sweet sixteen in the NCAA's last year.

The number four pick in this draft wasn't cutting it as far as saving a franchise from certain death.

Lets just pretend for one minute that you were Stern and you could help any individual team slash owner behind the scenes with a real talent, and a great kid, to a team that really needs it, to a city that needs it.

If I had that kind of power I would use it, and in this case I believe that it was the right move. Operation save the Cavs, and save Gilberts Bank account complete.

First of all, just because the teams say they are losing money, doesn't mean that they are.  Second, the solution to that is not necessarily to take it out on the players.

I'm 100% aware of that the owners maybe lying about the books, hence the word claim that was used.

What do you mean by take it out on the players? It's not about that Kyrie is rich now and he's a great kid he will be fine and leave the cacs in five years.

It's the Cavs you need to worry about if your Stern. They just got their hearts ripped out. Tome to bring in hope and "change you can believe in" get it.

I don't agree with the OP. If David Stern was rigging the draft, why would he arouse suspicion by selecting the Clippers' pick when he could select the Cavaliers' pick (one which would be easily believable as the lottery-winner because it had the second-highest chance of winning?).

Second, Dan Gilbert is filthy rich (He's a billionaire, I think) - he doesn't need any financial help. In addition, Cleveland is one of the more fiscally-healthy teams. Despite Lebron's departure (and being a small market), they sold a high number of season tickets, had some of the best attendance numbers, and also didn't have to pay the luxury test.

But how is his franchise in three years with the "talent" they have now. The team before the draft was a joke, that's indisputable. Now at least there is hope, and that you can sell.

To consider the odds of such a draw you'd really have to factor in all the possible pick permutations that would have had Clevelands two picks both be in the top four--or at least #1 and then 2, 3 or 4.

Not worth it to me, I'm not the one with the ax to grind--though I do think Stern's NBA is corrupt.  Just pointing out the logical limit to your 2% claim.

You are the one making a claim, the onus is on you to provide the evidence for it. Don't make other people do your homework.

The chance on the 4th pick was about 100%. Any other questions?

First of all, how do you figure it being 100%? Second of all, if you actually read the thread, you would see we were talking about the chance of the 1st and 4th going to the Cavs. Third of all, the only reason the probability is even being brought up was because KG Living Legend claimed it was a 2% chance.

It wasn't 100% at the start, but the absolute worst that pick could have been was 5th because the Cavs had the 2nd worst record.  Once Minnesota's name was drawn, there was 100% chance that Cleveland was 4 or better.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick
