I have a few opinions on this. Many people have said that Rondo's quick development was due to his apprenticeship under our current big 3 and while it is hard to argue that they have helped his growth, do you think he would have developed faster being the best player on a bad team? He said himself that if he were asked to score on a nightly basis, his offense would be much more developed than it is now. And while he may not have the veteran leadership of the big 3, he would get more touches, make mistakes earlier on therefore learning faster, and be forced to become more consistant because his team depends on him nightly.
Now I extend that to the entire league. Is a rookie better off like Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose, given the keys to his team and forced to develop under necessity or guided through development by veterans? In the KD situation, if they had kept Allen. I think that if a player is depended on to score every night for his team to win, he'll develop to a much more spectacular player, faster. Derrick Rose scores on triple teams sometimes and has learned how to produce even when it's sometimes 1 on 5. When he finally gets help, then watch out.
Making those buckets under triple teams takes practice. If a player gets accustomed to it, they will be better at it. Once multiple great players get together, they start to get accustomed to open looks, and lose the ability to score in tough defensive situations.
Another senario is if several talented rookies were teamed together like the Thunder or let's say hypothetically, James, Wade, and Bosh were together on the same team as rookies. Does this help or hinder their growth as individuals?
